José Pereira #1 Posted July 4, 2009 See the game map on "vgmaps.com" (C64 version). Like NRV said in "Atari vs Commodore" about new games for A8 with all the A8 technics, see the maps. Doing in a "Crownland way". You don't even have to use sprites as overlap. My idea it is 1 sprite overlap with one or two PF's colours for each character. Almost all the screen graphics could be done with simple DLIs. You will get more colours on screen than C64 version. (Ok - the c64 version coul have been better, with more colours, but they don't use them). I think it's a good example of an, maybe simple A8 port (in this case, not a conversion, - just add DLIs.). tebe #2 Posted July 4, 2009 first level is ok, but others sux, G&G on C64 is weak conversion
José Pereira #3 Posted July 4, 2009 I also have NES map screens. More detailed, and I think, it's on another resolution. I only try to give an example of a A8 good port. Another thing: Only 4 level game? Or this or C64 version are incomplete? José Pereira.
andym00 #4 Posted July 4, 2009 Is there any chance of posting those ? I'm investigating doing a port of a game to the 64, but redone completely in hi-res bitmap mode with sprite overlays and underlays, partly fuelled by this whole discussion in the other thread, and I think Ghosts'n'Goblins could be interesting.. SNES maps would be even betters And then looking at trying some similar on other beginning with the letter A.. Okay, I'm not going to manage 320 resolution except maybe on the 7800, but I'm game So far I've investigated R-Type as an option, and it's looking very very viable to remake the entire thing in 320x200x16 colours utilising every trick in the book Ah.. I've just found the SNES Super Ghouls and Ghosts on vgmaps, but I'd still love it if you could share the NES G'n'G map
José Pereira #5 Posted July 4, 2009 "nesmaps.com" have some games. And what is better, some have also the sprites (To direct port/conversions)" CASTLEVANIA IS THERE! "VGMAPS.COM" - See Ghost'n'Goblins there. Also, Gauntlet, Double Dragon, and many, many others... José Pereira.

carmel_andrews #7 Posted July 4, 2009 perhaps someone can extend Gordon kakegamic's A8 Demo called 'Ghostly Goblins' I think i saw an emulation version somewhere...it looked very much like Ghosts and goblins Failing that, perhaps someone can recode 'Domain of the undead' and make is less crappy

I mean my demo version was just a concept to see if I could recreate the gameplay on my Atari 800XL using Turbo Basic. GK
dwhyte #9 Posted July 7, 2009 Why don't we pool our resources and make a VBXE G&G?
carmel_andrews #10 Posted July 7, 2009 I hate elite software (orig. home computer rights holders of G & G)....anti atari 8bit like the rest of them
Jetboot Jack #11 Posted July 7, 2009 Why not do a kick ass regular A8 version - not a VBXE one sTeVE
Rybags #12 Posted July 7, 2009 It's not exactly a complex, process or graphics intensive game, so wouldn't be stretching things too far. Personally, I can think of plenty more games that would be more worthy. Black Tiger being probably #1 in the platform/scroller area.
carmel_andrews #13 Posted July 7, 2009 Perhaps a double header game would be nice...i.e Ghouls and ghosts and Ghosts and goblins Black tiger was an ok game...but there again, so was rygar (but less platformy)
popmilo #14 Posted July 7, 2009 Black Tiger should be easy conversion... Its simple 4 color background, character based weapons and objects in different color could be done using pmg...
oky2000 #15 Posted July 10, 2009 Personally if you want a nice platform arcade game with some nice hack n slash you should go for Rastan Saga. There isn't a decent version on any 8bit home computer and the DLIs would work great for a nice sky background on the A8. PS companies were not anti-A8 out of some personal grudge, in the UK the A8 market was non-existent even with cheap 800XL machines offloaded by Tramiels and they were in business to make money. There were plenty of games that the C64 didn't get until at least 18 months of good sales in the UK too. Also good A8 programmers were very rare in mid 1980s and even when some companies converted games they didn't turn out great anyway (like A8 Gauntlet which is pathetic and better off never being released IMO)
