FS Sega Card Catcher: Sega SG-1000 Mark I, Mark II, SC-3000

Recommended Posts

Is anybody here interested in a used, refurbished, and working Sega Card Catcher? This is the cartridge slot adapter that is necessary to play the Sega MyCard games on the Sega SG-1000 Mark I, Sega SG-1000 Mark II, Sega SC-3000, and Dina 2-in-1/Telegames Personal Arcade (Cartridge Slot A) consoles.

Of the 108 games/applications for these consoles, 29 of them are MyCard games; and of those 29, 24 are MyCard exclusives. This means that these games have no cartridge variant, which makes this adapter absolutely necessary to play them on these consoles.

This Card Catcher has been completely refurbished inside and out. Both sets of contacts have been burnished, de-oxidized and conditioned, and is guaranteed working. I don’t have any idea of the value of this item since I can’t find any that have been previously sold, so just shoot me an offer via PM if you’re interested.

Is there any way to make this work on a Master System, or is that totally not possible?

Nope, not possible.

Well I know that the US SMS cartridges are wider than the JAP SMS/SG-1000 cartridges (non-innerchangable), but the card-edge connector looks identical. Acording to wikipedia, the pinout is different as well, but I don't know for sure.

Yes, the pinout is totally different form the US/EU SMS.

They're not even close.

Regardless of the pin configurations, this device would be pointless on a Master System. Its purpose is to allow card Sega MyCard games to be played on the original SG-1000 or Mark II consoles, neither of which had a built-in card slot. The Mark III and Master System have a card slot built in, and thus have no use for this device. Unfortunately, Japanese card titles will not work on a North American SMS due to regional lockout in the BIOS.

Okay, so (and sorry to Hijack the thread) you CAN play the "My" titles on a region modded SMS through the card slot? I didn't realize they were the same (thought the "My" games were a technically infirior platform from SMS).

Technically, yes, but there's no such thing as a region-modded SMS. At least I've never seen or heard of one. You'd have to swap out the BIOS, and that would only allow you to play the card games...it isn't worth it. If you want to play all the games, you just buy a Japanese unit (which doesn't have regional lockout in the BIOS) and converter to play the North American and European exclusives.

I didn't realize they were the same (thought the "My" games were a technically infirior platform from SMS).

All the card games for the SG-1000 and Mark III/Master System carried the "My Card" moniker...that's just what they called them in Japan.

No, this item will allow you to play the SG-1000 MyCard games on an SG-1000 (or clone like the DINA) and SC-3000 which did not have a card slot. This will in no way allow you to play Master System games on a system older than a Master System.
