Atari Printer - XMM-801 or 1025?

Recommended Posts

I've recently had an interest in getting back into using 8-bit systems as a hobby and I've been putting together an Atari 800XL system. Right now I'm trying to decide on printer. The first computer I owned was an Atari 400, though I'd moved on to a Commodore 64 by the time I got my first printer (MPS-801), so I'm not very familiar with Atari Printers. I've been looking at the XMM-801 and 1025, primarily because I'd like an Atari branded printer and because I'd like something that attaches directly to SIO and doesn't require an interface. My main use would be printing program listings and maybe some musings on Atariwriter.

One concern is being able to use these with modern paper. Do either support a paper tray of some sort for loose leaf paper? What about continuous feed fanfold paper, do both printers support that if I were to buy a box of older computer paper? Also, I've read that the 1025 doesn't support graphics, is that information accurate? Also, is there a significant difference in the output of these printers?

I'm hoping some community wisdom can shed some light on these. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Both printers support tractor feed paper but there is a sheet feeder available for the XMM-801 if you can find one. Best Electronics I think still sells them. The XMM is also faster than the 1025.
