Atari 400

The inner board must be the RAM:

This looks like a 48K board to me, as it contains 24 pcs 16k*1 DRAM (presumably 3 banks making up for 16K each). Typing in ? FRE(0) in BASIC will tell you the exact amount and if the memory is working OK, so my advice would be to obtain a BASIC cart.

But I would take the BASIC cartridge from the guy offering it to you

 

My offer still stands but I will be moving the 3rd week in August so let me know on here or in a PM if you want my extra BASIC cart.

Now on to the other news: My Q,A,and Z keys are dead, or do I just need to clean the keyboard somehow?

I don't think he's going to pay you to take it.

They are not needed for any good game that I know of.

 

Sometimes the keyboard comes of the latch and key presses don't register.

Can you please take a picture of the bottom of the mother board of the 400 and post it?
