What games had a switch on top or the back?

Recommended Posts

I recall a few games when I was younger that had hidden switches on the top or on the back. Does anyone know any? Maybe it was just a power switch. I forget. I want to say Mappy had one up behind the marquee, but I could be wrong.

Many arcade games had a power switch on the top of the cabinet somewhere. Most pinball machines had one underneath.

Most had a switch somewhere, top of cab or above/below the back door are most common. Most cocktails had one underneath too.

No, I wasn't running out of topics. I was serious! I only knew of a very small handful of games with switches that I could easily reach as a little kid. I was unaware that a lot of them had power switches. I recall the arcade near me (it's been there since maybe the 60's or so as a poolhall, and still there as an arcade to this day), but I recall he shuts them all off at once.

That is why I asked what I did, it seemed liked an honest question and most people would not know about power switches on arcade games.

I was not trying to post just to post like some people do which is what it seemed like he was saying, thought I was answering a question.

I was born in 1973. I'm 6 foot 2 inches tall now, but back then I was just a kid, so I wouldn't really have been as tall as an arcade machine yet.

I think I was very fortunate to grow up when I did. I am sure every generation thinks that they're fortunate to grow up when they did, but I really believe our time was the best. I am not sure if this means I am getting old, or what.

I just don't see kids from this generation saying this in 20 years: "Remember back when they had those whack-a-mole games that dispensed tickets? I spent my whole summer playing those! I spent a large portion of my paper route money and probably $150 in quarters to get a chinese finger torture, a plastic ring that squirts water, and a generic mp4 player."

Yes, they were just power switches. Most machines had them, because most machines came with them from the factory, and the ones that didn't often had a switch added by the arcade operator. Most operators preferred the switch to be on the top of the machine in the rear right-hand corner; and if it was on the bottom, then on the right side. The companies that put the switches on the bottom middle of the back of the cabinet were a source of irritation to many operators.

About a year ago I added a switch (top, rear, right corner) to my Ikari Warriors machine because it didn't come with one.

Ms.Pacman, Super Pacman.. and I assume regular Pacman both had the power switch on the top back left. Xevious has one on the back left.

Perhaps its a signature from the manufacture, Correct me if I am wrong, because this is all a complete guess... But Midway would more often then not have the swich on the top for convenience, where as Namco/or Atari would put the power switch on the back for concelement.
