STICH666 #1 Posted July 20, 2009 There's one on craigslist and I'm debating weather or not to get it. If I do get it I'm planning to resell it. I just want to know if it's worth it.
MCHufnagel #2 Posted July 20, 2009 If it can play TG-16 cd games, then I would think it would be a good deal. Laserdisc players are still rather pricey (at least to me) and so are TG-16 cd units. And the TG-16 modules for the Laseractive are rarer than the genny modules.
Atariman #3 Posted July 20, 2009 Assuming it works and depending upon what it comes with, I'd say that's probably a good to great deal. Not having to track the add-ons down is a definite plus.
CGQuarterly #4 Posted July 20, 2009 Protip: Don't post about items for sale on Craigslist that you are considering buying. It can and will be bought out from under you. It took me about 5 seconds to bring up the ad on my computer. Chris
STICH666 #5 Posted July 20, 2009 Alright thanks.
Baloo #6 Posted July 20, 2009 Just pulled it up myself as well Buy it now! That is an awesome deal.
STICH666 #7 Posted July 20, 2009 Ok anybody on here can get it if they are in the area. My parents are telling me no because obviously they have no idea of its value. They just say "you don't need more games". I really can't go around them.
STICH666 #8 Posted July 20, 2009 And also I didn't realize it's in New Jersey.

yuppicide #10 Posted July 21, 2009 I don't have the money for it, but if anyone is interested I'm about 10 minutes from Hamilton. I'd then have to ship it to you somehow and Laserdisc's are heavy, aren't they?

shadow460 #12 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) Get it. I own a LaserActive with the Sega pack, and it's one of the best classic "system" purchases I have ever made. I've heard a lot of negative about the laserdisc capabilities, but I don't believe much of it. I'm sure you can get better laserdisc players, but the LaserActive does get the job done. The Sega pack is common, from what I have read it had nearly a 1 to 1 ratio of sales with the LaserActive units. The NEC packs are much harder to get. There is a PC Engine pack, PAC-N1, and a Turbo Grafx pack, PAC-N10. A karaoke pack and a PC pack also exist. If it weren't for that NEC pack, I'd say $75 to $100 would probably be fair, depending on if it has the LaserActive branded Genesis pad and/or the wireless remote. The NEC pack, though, is worth something to those of us who own the unit. Just for the record, the LaserActive has a built in video buffer that allows frame by frame, skip, search, and some other features on CLV laserdiscs, but the image quality during these functions is slightly reduced. Oh, and yes, the NEC packs do play the CD and LD based games for their respective systems. The Sega pack allows use of Sega CD and Mega LD games as well, but not 32X CD games or carts. I do not know if it plays Virtua Racing or not, and I haven't spent the $6 on that game yet to try it out. If you buy this and are interested in selling the NEC pack, definitely shoot me a PM. Also, if it has the original no pack faceplate, I'd be interested in that as well, since mine lacks one. I also have access to a couple of places that sell laserdisc movies. And, in the unlikely event that Genesis games have dried up in your area, I could probably locate one or two common titles for you. EDIT: Soon it'll be time to finish watching that laserdisc of Star Trek III... Edited July 21, 2009 by shadow460

EDIT: Soon it'll be time to finish watching that laserdisc of Star Trek III... I can't get it sadly. My parents won't let me and it's too far away. But you're right abut the Genesis games drying up. If anything, they've been having an explosion at garage sales. 3 different model consoles with 10-25 games in the past 3 weeks. It's ridiculous. I have yet to go to a garage sale that didn't have some sort of Genesis peripheral for sale.
nathanallan #14 Posted July 21, 2009 That's funny about the Genesis explosion. There are those two handhelds coming out, so I would think they'd be getting held on to more, else they just want to get rid of them. btw, dry here, not much to be found. Plenty of Sonics and sports games. Not much else. Hope someone gets that LaserActive here.
shadow460 #15 Posted July 21, 2009 I will look on there tomorrow. I know that shipping and by mail dealing isn't really what CL is about, but I may try to purchase the NEC pack from them.
the.golden.ax #16 Posted July 21, 2009 Well if anyone wants to make an easy $100, I'd buy the unit with an n10 pack/ s10 pak for $300 and pay the shipping as well. AX
yuppicide #17 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) Ahh, crap. I was looking at the wrong ad. The one with the NEC PAC is about 53 minutes away from me. But, it's mostly one road for me. I will contact the if you want, but the problem is my PayPal is not working. Edited July 21, 2009 by yuppicide
yuppicide #18 Posted July 21, 2009 I just spoke with the person. He still has the Laserdisc and is moving in 2 days, so he would like me to come see it today. The way he sounds I can probably get it for cheaper.
the.golden.ax #19 Posted July 21, 2009 Yeah, I want the one with the NEC. I was one of the fools who had it when new, and sold it. I've regretted it since. We can work it out somehow. AX

yuppicide #21 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) I wanted one of these back in the day. Was there any compatability issues with either TG or Sega playing certain games? Has anyone actually played the LaserActive game for Zelda? That's one of the only reasons I was going to get the system because it's the only Zelda game my friend hadn't played. Funny I've seen the Sega pack sell as cheap as $25 or $50.. but the Turbo ones considerably more. Edited July 21, 2009 by yuppicide

yuppicide #23 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) I just realized something. The picture he is using on the page is from the Wikipedia entry. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pioneer_LaserActive Makes me a little nervous. I think he's bluffing. The wording makes it sounds like it only comes with the unit and movies. No add-ons. Read it again. Edited July 21, 2009 by yuppicide
the.golden.ax #24 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) I think you are thinking of the CD-I, this one never had a Zelda that I am aware. I know the Laseractive sould not work with Turbo Duo Arcade card games, and the Sega part would not work with the 32x... I know... huge losses there. It was the system I first played and beat Lunar I, played most of Lunar II, Shining Force CD, and others... lots of fond memories there. I picked it over the 3do. Spent some $900 with the pac's and a few games, but my friends "creamed their pant's" an actual phrase used by one of them when seeing it in action. A few years later I got PSX on launch day and abandoned this for way too little. PS Yeah, I got that from it too... the photo was too nice for CL, and the wording was off. yuppicide #25 Posted July 21, 2009 Does anyone know if there is a way for me to change a photo on wikipedia? If so I can create a free account and change the photo to read something else.
