flammingcowz #1 Posted July 21, 2009 On Asteroids, with everything on the hardest settings, I can still flip the scoreboard. I was just wondering if its this easy for everyone?
potatohead #3 Posted July 21, 2009 Yeah. It's really really easy. If you can find a Supercharger, there is a great bitmap version on the Stella CD. I really enjoy that one.
Thomas Jentzsch #4 Posted July 21, 2009 Look for Sadistroids if you want a real challenge.
4Ks #5 Posted July 21, 2009 So it's not just me, then? The last time I played this game, I got 136,600 without even trying.
+save2600 #6 Posted July 21, 2009 So it's not just me, then? The last time I played this game, I got 136,600 without even trying. Nope, not just you. Atari 2600 Asteroids blows. It's so easy and lame (the asteroids never come at you and their movement is just plain wrong compared to the arcade), it's all I can do to play for more than 5 minutes. flammingcowz #10 Posted July 22, 2009 Game 33 on difficulty A Try that one hot shot. Tried that as soon as I read it, made it to 45k first try.
etschuetz #11 Posted July 22, 2009 Once, back when I was still in High School, during a summer, I rolled the score four times. Left playing it due to extreme boredom and hand cramps.

godzillajoe #13 Posted July 23, 2009 Game 33 on difficulty A Try that one hot shot. Tried that as soon as I read it, made it to 45k first try. Hmm I guess *I* suck. There's always MAME.
Thomas Jentzsch #14 Posted July 23, 2009 Game 33 on difficulty A Try that one hot shot. 33? You mean 32, right?
NE146 #15 Posted July 23, 2009 You definitely NEVER want to play the even ODD number variations (33). The Even numbers (32) are the ones you want. On the even numbers, the asteroids have pretty much zero variation in movement and pretty much only move up & down on the side At least in the odd numbers you get some variation in movement with the small asteroids able to travel diagonally. Pitfall Harry #16 Posted July 23, 2009 Try playing Asteroids left-handed (or right-handed if you are a lefty). You can also try playing as you look at the game screen in a mirror. Close one eye. Have a friend come over and seal all the windows and doors and then release 200 sewer rats and 12 ravenous alley cats into the room and light off a brick of firecrackers at the moment you start your next game. Difficulty switches are only the beginning.

godzillajoe #18 Posted July 23, 2009 Maybe I meant 32. It's the last one player game. The one where you get no extra lives. Anyway, I'm gonna go play and have people throw ACTUAL rocks at me to make it more challenging.
NE146 #19 Posted July 24, 2009 For the record, "THE" game variation to play if you want it as close to the arcade as possible is Game variation 4, Difficulty A i.e. -Diagonally travelling Asteroids (they call it "fast" for some reason in the manual) -Extra man at 10k -Hyperspace -UFO's appear Alternatively Game 12, difficulty A is what I always used to play when I was a kid since it swapped out Hyperspace for shields. Thomas Jentzsch #20 Posted July 24, 2009 Maybe I meant 32. It's the last one player game. The one where you get no extra lives. 32 then, because 33 is the single player KIDS version.
