Arcadenut #1 Posted October 8, 2002 I finnaly finished writing my game. This is a remake of the classic game Pengo (that is why it's posted here). It will be released tonight at Midnight (Phoenix, AZ time). Check the Software page after that time to download it. The game is absolutely free. Feel free to use this topic to make comments or ask questions about it. Good or bad
oesii #2 Posted October 8, 2002 Looks very nice, the huge play screen too makes it seem challenging. Did you mention if this is going to be a Windows game or some other platform?
Arcadenut #3 Posted October 8, 2002 Looks very nice, the huge play screen too makes it seem challenging. Did you mention if this is going to be a Windows game or some other platform? That's the 2600 Version Actually, yes, it's Windows 95 or Higher. (Notice I didn't say "Better"). Recommended PII/400 or better since it uses DirectX 7 or Higher. It might run on a lesser machine if it has a good video card, I just want to make sure they don't expect it to run on a 486 It crawls (3 - 5 FPS) on my P220 Laptop, but I think that is because it doesn't have a very good video chip. I would be interested in hearing what kind of systems are out there and how it runs on them. The FPS (Frames Per Second) are shown in the Upper Left corner of the screen. RCorcoran #5 Posted October 9, 2002 It rocks on my PIII-500 laptop (62 fps) So it goes without saying that it plays very smoothly (76 fps) on my 1.5GHz Dell Dimension.

liquid_sky #8 Posted October 10, 2002 very enjoyable game. if anyone out there was a fan of the orig pengo, they need to get this. its not a remake where there are fancy graphics and lame gameplay, it plays just like the classic. Its been worth the wait. More points to it for being written in blitz basic..
RCorcoran #9 Posted October 10, 2002 Brien: While I was never a fan of Pengo back in the day, your game has turned me to the Dark Side...
Turnspike #10 Posted October 12, 2002 Wow, what a well developed game. Very addictive! Nice work. BTW: The background music is very familiar. Art Bell uses that tune as his buffer music from time to time. Is it from one of the versions of Pengo, or from another source?
Mindfield #11 Posted October 12, 2002 Hmmm ... runs at a solid 61FPS on mine, despite having my desktop res set to 75Hz (1280x1024). And I'm running an Athlon XP 1800+/256mb RAM/GeForce 2MX 440 (32mb)/DX8.0A Is there a frame limiter? Anyway, very nicely done game. I suck at it, but that's an entirely different set of issues. :-) I do find that it's a little too fast right off the bat, though.

Thanks There is no need for a Frame Limiter as everything is based on time. The FPS is just an indicator of how fast the screen is updating and how fast the game is executing. Movement, Animation, Control Polling, AI Logic, are all based on time. For example: The SnoBee's position is updated every 23 milliseconds. This means that the SnoBee will only move 3 pixels in any direction every 23 milliseconds. As long as your computer can process everything in less than that amount of time, the game runs normally. If your computer is too slow, things will be "Catching UP". If the game is seems too hard, you can go into Setup and adjust the difficulty settings. You can also adjust the number of lives, extra men, etc... If anyone thinks the game is too easy, they can set the difficulty to HARD So far, on Normal, my high score is 330+K on level 17. RCorcoran #13 Posted October 14, 2002 And Todd Rogers just submitted a score of... 818,510 playing Normal Difficulty. I really must practice more. My 98k sucks by comparison.
