FlightSuit #6 Posted August 2, 2009 At the new retro-gaming store in SF, everything is in a locked case. Are people's fingers less sticky in El Paso?
yuppicide #7 Posted August 2, 2009 I'd have called the store Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right A B START. That Sega poster from Hyperkin is lookin nice. I know you were talking about the units before. the Sonic shaped system is nice.
Baloo #8 Posted August 2, 2009 Very nice, although that one shelf in the store needs organizing, looks a bit like a thrift store lol. And get some more posters! Make it look like a video game store!
carmel_andrews #9 Posted August 2, 2009 You need to get yourself a website and address NA...so that you can do biz. internationally...any atari/cbm goodness there
nathanallan #10 Posted August 2, 2009 (edited) @Flightsuit, There's a pretty high concentration of lithium in the water, so shoplifting is low here. I've only had it happen once and it was something dumb so I let it go, pre-glass cases. Plus I didn't find out about it till much later. That large open shelf is behind one glass counter, so I can leave it in the open. @yuppicide, Thanks! I am a Hyperkin affiliate @Baloo, Working on more posters, that was just a few pics, there is the front wall, more posters there I didn't take pics of. Definitely getting more! I know it needs more organization, there's just so much stuff. I thought it was a pretty big store at first, then stuff kepot coming in and got really small really quickly. I've never been good at organizing, but I'm learning (particularly by looking at Waterborn's store-- frekkin awesome). @Carmel, There is a website but I'm not pushing it too much since it isn't done yet. It's http://www.supermegaturbo.wetpaint.com/. All of my online selling is being done on the Chuckwagon right now. Anything in the pictures is for sale, too. A new tour video is in order, I think. I can get this done tomorrow. I sell internationally from the chuckwagon. There are a few systems for Atari, nothing Commodore yet. That stuff is VERY hard to come by here in this dusty town. I have a pretty large collection myself of both Atari and CBM but it's taken years to get it all. Things may look a bit sparse, but not bad if you know that I started with nearly nothing for sale and no real capital. Only the income from a crappy temp job at first and whatever computers I could get fixed for people. The true reason SMT started is to get hours for my degree-- nobody was hiring and I needed a job for work hours. It was next door in the back of a bookstore, there was computer repair and had a few things for sale on the wall. My good friend Joe signed all the papers for my hours for school and amazingly it started becoming popular and I got repeat customers. Now I just love what I do, it's like an obsession. FlightSuit #11 Posted August 2, 2009 There's nobody wealthier than a man who gets paid to do what he loves. Regarding lithium: Do they put in in the water on purpose? I know it's a brain chemical, but for cryin' out loud, it's also a battery acid and a crystal meth ingredient!
nathanallan #12 Posted August 2, 2009 It's not on purpose, the ground water is just full of it and they don't bother filtering it too much. I guess, not really sure. There's a lot of the stuff in the ground naturally and it seeps in.
FlightSuit #13 Posted August 3, 2009 Damn. Better get a good water filter! You say it affects people's shoplifting habits, though?
nathanallan #14 Posted August 3, 2009 It seems to affect lots of things. For "some reason" the suicide rate is lower, the violent crime rate is lower, all the more energetic crimes are down here. I can only guess it's because of the lithium in the water. People are just calm here. *Plus* people can get a license to carry concealed weapons, so that might have something to do with it. Yay Texas.
Fort Apocalypse #15 Posted August 3, 2009 That's so awesome! Congrats on the store! Hope it does well!
Chickybaby #16 Posted August 3, 2009 It's awesome, congrats! I say bottle the water and call it "El Paso's Best" or something.
FlightSuit #17 Posted August 3, 2009 Funny coincidence, I was just asking a friend of mine from Oregon about their conceal-and-carry status. He said the conceal part wasn't so important, 'cause in his town, you can walk around with a gun on your hip, and nobody thinks anything of it. As they say, an armed populace is a polite populace. 2600Lives #18 Posted August 3, 2009 So kick ass, Nate. Too bad El Paso is so freakin' far away. I'd be there like every day, and I'd just HAVE to buy something.

FlightSuit #25 Posted January 8, 2010 So GameShopELP, if those are your pics, and they're pics of your store, and your store is located on the same street as Nathan's, why haven't you taken a stroll over there and talked to him about this directly? One would think that creating drama on the Internet would be a last resort. Unless you're a troll.
