@flightsuit, thanks, it might make a difference with the extra flagging. It was odd that another ad came up for something for sale on the east side of town, that had the same upper-lower case letters, like he forog to to turn off the macro. If you look up Super Mega Turbo in the El Paso ads, you can see other things I have up (just for example). fix my ride he says in it, I guess he drives a car like mine

 

@carmel, I know it, they have some really great stuff down there that has never made it to the US! Tec Toy likes to only deal with big companies, it seems, as they emailed me back once but never again. Guitar Idol really makes me want it bad. Working on pics:) And while interesting, the stuff from Mexico isn't so great. The neatest thing I have come across is European Olivetti equipment that is still in production; not to much else. But go further down it's a totally different (gaming) world. I posted it at sega-16, that the Mega Drive is still current gen, and I love that.

 

@stitch, it's weird, he really hates me, I mean to the bone. I think it's because I never gave him the reaction he wanted, and when people came to the shop before they always came to see me because he is a rude-ass and knows zip about customer service.

 

I hear now that he's letting his store go under new management and he won't be running it anymore, and almost intentionally ticking off customers. See, he has no love of gaming or technology and is in it strictly for the money and to keep from being bored. That's my take, at least. All this rumor crap with the local businesses is a bit of a headache. I can see why so many shops fail. I think I have a couple of characteristics that keep me in there, though, obsession and passion. And a don't give a &*%! attitude, lol. If crap happens, I can deal with it.

Nope, I refused to do what he told me to do, and when he got loud I told him to mind his own f___ing business, to his face, here. The rest is subjective, and I don't know what he was thinking. I also ignored him a lot, that's what I really think got his goose.

 

I do know that now he's telling people what he's telling them. Normally I'd keep this in a private conversation but he's invited me to make it public by telling people that I'm closed which is a lie.

Harassment and libel are both prohibited under the craigslist terms of use, so I flagged them as "prohibited".

 

Hopefully this guy fizzles out soon. I'd document the libel/slander/harassment when possible, in case you eventually have to get nasty with him. What he's doing is illegal, but if you're forced to go down that road then you'll need proof.

Right now the proof I have are the CL ads and that guy that told me, of which I took a detailed note of what he told me. Hopefully it won't go that far, I have way too many other things to do rather than do that kind of thing.

What the heck did he expect you to do? It's a shame everybody hasn't matured as they grew up. Some people get weird when they're out-competed; they seem to think that making a business work once entitles them to permanent success. It doesn't. True success at anything requires continuous improvement, perseverance, and commitment. Hold the high ground, keep the gaming faith, and you'll prevail. Your customers are the ones in charge, and they'll certainly be able to differentiate between the two of you.

Does anyone know off the top of their heads what to do to trace this guy back to his IP address? What the ad says is not true, .99 for a t-shirt is asinine and what is being said is bullshit. Looks liek it's supposedly posted by me but it isn't.

 

Please help me PROHIBIT this one.

To the guy hating on my ads-- get a life! You don't like games? You don't like ME? Take whatever is wrong out on MEDS.

 

These shirts aren't on sale anywhere for 99 cents, that last t-shirt ad was FALSE.

That last ad was posted up by a competitor, and was false. They are not on sale anywhere for 99 cents, if a shirt can be had for that much then it's not worth having.

 

Save time and walking through a huge parking lot full of crazy drivers looking for parking spots by coming to my out of the way shop to a nice atmosphere and friendly service.

 

I also accept trades for the shirts and anything else that I have for sale, even if it's broken!

Nathan, in answer to your question about getting this guy's IP address, all you need to do is contact Craigslist and explain the situation. Every single time you post an ad on CL, it says:

 

NOTICE - If you continue with this posting, you understand and agree that:

 

1. if craigslist believes that you impersonated someone by posting an ad in their name, or with their contact information, without their explicit consent, you authorize craigslist to release any and all information about you to the victim, and

 

2. if craigslist's actual damages cannot be reasonably determined in a court of law, you agree that you will pay craigslist liquidated damages of $1,000 for each such violation of our Terms of Use [?].

Looks like this got them off of CL this time, the ads are gone, thanks for all the support. I don't think that guy has anything better to do, and that hating me is his favorite hobby.

 

I'll be going the craigslist rules route, with reporting and it would only be funny if they decided to fine him, I don't think that would hurt my feelings at all.

Prohibited is the right way to flag them.

How does Craigslist know that they are harassing, defamatory, libelous, etc? I clicked on "prohibited" and it didn't ask me for any additional info.

Pretty sure they look at the flagged posts and make the decision then. I'm really hoping to have that person impersonate me again, that's a total violation and I can nail him. Secretly hoping, anyway. It sucks when it happens, but there's that upside.
