sandmountainslim #1 Posted August 3, 2009 I have heard the 77-92 Atari 2600 games referred to as "old era" games would that make the 94-current homebrew games "new era"? As I understand it the first homebrew game was in '94 but when was the earliest 2600 emulator created? I know the first version of Stella was in '96 but was there any created prior to that? As I have it figured 1993 was the only year in which no 2600 games whatsoever were created unless anyone here knows of a game created or released that year. Set me straight or confirm me! cvga #2 Posted August 3, 2009 I never thought about this but my understanding is that Acid Drop was one of the last commercial games produced (1992) and I thought EdTris was one of the first homebrews released (1994 or 1995).
cvga #3 Posted August 3, 2009 OK, how about Cubicolor? I just saw that it was released in 1993-1994.
sandmountainslim #4 Posted August 3, 2009 OK, how about Cubicolor? I just saw that it was released in 1993-1994. You may be right! If it was '93 then it could be the "missing link" that connects the Old and New Era. Edtris was in 1995 but there was some sound making contraption released in '94 that gets all the glory as First Homebrew even though it is not a game. I also have that cart around here somewhere.
Rom Hunter #6 Posted August 3, 2009 (edited) OK, how about Cubicolor? I just saw that it was released in 1993-1994.Yes, but it was originally planned for 1982, so that makes it old era in my book. I believe Ed Federmeyer has the honour to initiate the new era of VCS games with his Edtris 2600 and SoundX, created in 1994. mos6507 #7 Posted August 3, 2009 (edited) 15 years of homebrewing. Wow. I first started on Stella Gets a New Brain around then too. That's when I first got onto the internet before I even moved to California. How times have changed. Edited August 3, 2009 by mos6507
