Tempest #1 Posted August 3, 2009 Is there a way to improve the RF signal on the O2? Mine has some pretty bad static. I don't suppose someone has come up with a composite mod? Tempest
FABombjoy #2 Posted August 3, 2009 There is a dead simple composite mod available, but I don't know of a URL offhand. I think it's a touch dark, but still preferable to RF.
BigO #3 Posted August 3, 2009 (edited) There's this, by a credible enough source: http://web.archive.org/web/20050216001501/.../tech/o2av.html Which I quote in its entirety here: Magnavox Odyssey² Composite & Audio Output Modification This one is a snap. Materials Needed [2] RCA jacks wire Procedure Choose a place to mount the jacks. It's tempting to slap them somewhere on the back of the unit, but that would probably interfere with the Voice module. I drilled two holes in the side of the top half of the shell for mine. There's no point in producing schematics for this one. Audio output = junction of C45 and R49 Video output = junction of C44 and R7 One wire from each of the above points to the center post of an RCA jack, outside conductor of the RCA jacks to ground, badaboom badabing, away you go. Tempest #4 Posted August 3, 2009 Sounds simple, but I'd want pics. It makes things so much easier. Tempest
doubledown #5 Posted August 3, 2009 I've done this mod before as described above. It is super easy, but as pointed out the display is a bit dark.
Tempest #6 Posted August 3, 2009 I've done this mod before as described above. It is super easy, but as pointed out the display is a bit dark. I wonder why? Maybe someone can look into fixing that? Tempest
doubledown #7 Posted August 3, 2009 I'd consider it if the O2 system/games/controllers didn't suck so bad! Realisticatlly I don't think that there's enough love for the O2 to warrant someone to re-engineer this mod.
keilbaca #8 Posted August 3, 2009 I've done this mod before as described above. It is super easy, but as pointed out the display is a bit dark. I wonder why? Maybe someone can look into fixing that? Tempest If you use the same signal amp like you use with the Atari 2600, then I'm sure it'll be just as bright as the 2600. Its like the mod that I do, after you add the resistors, the mod is a tad dark but the signal is clear and crisp.
Tempest #9 Posted August 3, 2009 Exactly how dark is dark? I might just do this mod anyway if someone can post a pic or two showing where to solder the wires. Tempest
