doubledown #6 Posted August 8, 2009 (edited) If you are looking for a y-cable to plug 2 controllers into 1 controller port, than you want 1 female end, and 2 male ends. The male/female description for the end refers to the pins/sockets and not the housing. So while for example, the end on the controller itself fits into the controller jack on the console, the thought would be that this is the male, but in fact it is a female, because the "male" pins are in the controller jack, and the "female" sockets are on the controller's cable. Presumably you are looking for this cable to connect a standard Atari or similar joystick, and a CV controller (for the use of the keypad), into one controller port. Also just at a glance the cable linked to above from Amazon won't work on a ColecoVision, if that what this is for, due to the overall size of the female connector's housing. The one linked to from Atari2600.com would be what you want for 2 controllers plugged into 1 port as long as all of the pins connected. If you were looking to plug 1 controller into 2 ports, (sharing 1 controller for both players not playing simuletaneously), then you would want a "reverse y-cable".
