Atari sf354 Drive question

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Can I format ds/dd disks in that drive? SF354

I know that the drive is ss/dd, but I'm having some problems formating ds/dd disks as ss/dd.

Do I need to cover some hole? or the disks are the same?

Does anyone has some pictures of ss/dd disks, front and back?

The drive is recognizing that is write protected

Thank you

Yes you should be able to use DSDD disks as SSDD and format to 360k.

I took the drive a part, and is not spinning. Looks like a newer model, because it uses 34 pin ribbon. I have couple old drives with disk select option, I will try to replace it and see what it does.

I replaced the drive with Epson SMD-320, and I can format and access the disks now as a SS/DD. The SMD-320 is a Flexible Drive capable HD/DD drive, but I can't format DS/DD 720k on the atari 520STm. Is it the limitation of the SF354 PCB or there is something else I can do to make it DS/DD? Did some one attempted to do that?
