I'll be honest, I don't like Rad Racer or Rad Racer II. It's not to say it's not a good game. When I was younger we had a 2600 and a NES at my Dad's House. He used to drive me crazy playing Rad Racer for hours on end. He loved racing games. I got so bored waiting for a turn and never wanted to play that game.

I did a similar game to this back in 2006, you can take a look here: http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/82248-roadblaster-a-new-batari-basic-game/page__hl__roadblaster. I think it's pretty close to what you were trying to accomplish with your Rad Racer game, the source is posted in the thread if you'd like to take a look.
