What's your favorite videogame sound effect?

Recommended Posts

I know there's some threads about what's your favorite music but what about sounds?

My favorites are...

-Chun-Li's laugh "Hahahah! Ya Ta!!!"

-The burp sound effect in Fast Food "Burp!"

-The sound when Mario touches a mushroom or fire flower

-The sound in Pacman 2600 when the round starts

-The sound when ET runs fast

-The pause sound effect in Legendary Wings

-All the voices in Berzerk for 5200

The "warp in" sound in Joust is my favorite.

I also love most of the sounds in Williams games: Defender, Stargate, Robotron, Sinistar....

The board switching sound from Robotron and the death sound from arcade Millipede, both of which are seemingly designed to induce a heart attack.

Yes indeed, those classic Williams games always had great sound effects. If I put a lot of thought into this I could probably think of a lot of cool sounds I really like in various games. Off the top of my head I can think of:

Outlaw (2600) The sound when you get shot and subsequently knocked on your rump. :D

Mappy (Arcade) The microwave effect when you open those special doors.

Asteroids (Arcade) The sounds when the ships cannon is fired.

Killer Bees (O2) The weird vocalizations emitted by The Voice before each round. "More, more, more (?) BZZZZZ BZZZZ!

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (INTV) The sounds of the dragon slumbering.

A lot of them...all these pertain to the arcade version and not home ports:

- the Mario death in Donkey Kong

- Pac-Man eating the ghost

- the constant background sound in Galaxian (probably my favorite)

- the descending saucer sound in Astro Invader

- the bullet and next screen sounds in Robotron

- the fire and next stage sounds in Tempest

- all the sounds in Asteroids

- Mr. Do! collecting cherries

- bullets in Space Invaders

I have never played Sinistar but i really want to. It looks really cool.

The best part about it is how easy it is to to just relax and play a nice, calming game of it.

In the original Sonic the Hedgehog, the sound when sonic gets a ring. One of my all time favorte games, but it may have the best sound (effects and music) of any classic game.

My favorite sound effect has to be the sound that Mega Man (on NES) makes when he lands from a jump. Tidit! Tidit! :)

I love it when you shoot the robots in Xybots (arcade) and they make that "Bi-bi-bi-bi" noise before they explode.
