Poopopyo #28 Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) One of my all-time favorites, as annoying as it is, the buzzing sound in tons of Intellivision games like space hawk and snafu. (press the wrong button) ERRRRRRRRRRRRR. I also love the sound the ball makes every time it bounces in Breakout. Of course, the game over screen in Missile Command. rrrrrrrrr WOOSH WOOSH WOOSH And probably the most annoying: Mattel Electronics presents BEEE SEVENTEEEN BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWMER Edited August 15, 2009 by Poopopyo
+thegoldenband #29 Posted August 15, 2009 (edited) Some favorites: In Marble Madness, the incredibly forlorn sound you hear when your marble takes a dive. (Arcade or NES version.) The monster noises in Dungeons of Daggorath (CoCo) and Drakkhen (SNES), most of which are priceless. The undignified "splat" noise your character makes when you fall too far in Downland (CoCo). The WGBH-style sound effect that plays between levels in Robotron:2084. In Q*bert for the 2600, the odd series of tones that announces the arrival of Sam, which somehow reminds me of Lorenzo Music's voice. The snarly, "I'm chomping on you" sound that attacking monsters make in Tower of Doom (INTV). And the amazingly fey umpire in Super Bases Loaded 3 for SNES! "Stri-i-i-ike..." lushgirl_80 #30 Posted August 15, 2009 Oh wow, how can I forget...... -The narrator in Gauntlet 2 ... " Valkyrie NOW has...reflective shots" lol -The sound when you touch a forcefield or teleporter in Gauntlet 2 -When you get a continue in the bonus level for Sonic 1 -When Gex talks in Gex-64 -When Mario jumps over a barrel in Donkey Kong for 2600 -Time Gal's voice (that one Sega CD game) -When that one bug in Centipede for 5200 crawls across the screen(not the spider but the one when you shoot it turns into smoke)
shadow460 #31 Posted August 15, 2009 Seconded for Q bert. The cursing sound is freakin' hilarious. Also the ship crashing sound in Reactor is kind of a thump noise that makes you think "d'oh"!

retrorussell #33 Posted August 15, 2009 I have several: The "wup wup wup" sound when you pick up a human in Robotron 2084. The startup sound for Defender is pretty badass. Sinistar roaring. The "bonus" sound it makes when you shoot a Galaxian yellow ship in flight.

liveinabin #36 Posted August 16, 2009 The sound when your ship spawns in Defender (arcade). That big cabinet just made it resonate so well - awesome sound effect, Williams were so good at big sounds.

shadow460 #38 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) Another one: "Jax wins...Fatality" I also liked the animation in KI2 when Fulgore attained the "Supreme Victory". The machine would say the words, then Fulgore's hands would arc--loudly--to add effect. Edited August 16, 2009 by shadow460
Rik #39 Posted August 16, 2009 (edited) All the sounds in 2600 Donkey Kong!I hear those sounds on TV all the time,in commercials, movies, everywhere. These are the sounds that make me feel nostalgiac about the early days playing the 2600.Not the fanciest sounds, but very memorable. houstonlibrarian #40 Posted August 16, 2009 The *tink* sound you made when you stole the basketball in super tecmo basketball. Also the "target in sight" for b-17 bomber.
retrorussell #41 Posted August 17, 2009 The *tink* sound you made when you stole the basketball in super tecmo basketball. The announcer's "Three!!!" was very satisfying when draining a trey, wasn't it? I love that game, even if it's devoid of any challenge. The "pweet!" sound when you try to fire a missile when you're out on Missile Command. Hearing the squash sound of the rock hitting the bad guys was very satisifying on Dig Dug. nebrazca78 #45 Posted August 17, 2009 I love the sounds of Quake 1. The soundtrack is Nine Inch Nails which is great too, but... The shooting sound of the weaker nailgun The sound when you shoot those white flying creatures... "Guh" The sound the Vore makes when you kill it The sound the grenade makes when it hits the ground... "Tink" From other games... The sound it makes on Street Fighter Alpha when you change or make selections on the beginning screens The sound on DOOM when you totally blow someone up The sequence of sounds on Panzer Dragoon Saga when Azel does "Ne-rai"

darthkur #48 Posted August 18, 2009 -The "Beeep" sound when you turn on a Texas Instruments TI-99 4A computer Yes! Since having one for over a quarter century that sound immediately brings forth a wave of nostalgia. How about: The sizzling sound the lit fuzzes make in Kaboom (2600) The slithering (moving sound), and impact and subsequent suction sound, when killed for Snafu (INTV) The launching noise and impact for Smithereens (O2) The voice comments are a hoot too. "You Blew It" "Turkey" Falling into a slime Pit and the death knell that's played when the Wampus gets you. Hunt the Wampus (TI99/4a) The sound of digging a hole in Lode Runner (almost the same for all versions) The climbing sound for Crazy Climber (Arcade) In fact all the sounds for that one. Getting clocked in the head with a flower pot and the "Ooooohhh Nooooooooo" when you fall. Great stuff
retrorussell #49 Posted August 18, 2009 I liked the "wooooah!" sound when Indy would swing across a gap in Temple Of Doom. And the incompetent Thuggies were mumbling nonsense and falling to their deaths/getting burned, yelling "Aiiieee!", which would crack me up.
