What's your favorite videogame sound effect?

Recommended Posts

The sound of Sonic getting an extra life. Very satisfactory!

The sound of safely depositing a fallen humanoid on Defender.

The goofy sounds on Earthworm Jim.. like when you pick up bubbles (shwup!), when Jim utters his goofy sayings ("Ho, Nellie!" or "Yippee!" or "Ohhh yeah..", or "GROOVY!", etc.), the SQUAWK!!! Psy-Crow makes when you ram into him in the asteroid race, and the "bwoik!" sound you make when you get hurt.

Baby Mario's crying in Yoshi's Island.

Haha, my mom hated when I played that game back in the day.

Man, that seems like yesterday, I remember the commercials for that game.

Mine is from the Williams pinball game Black Knight. When you light the ramp on the top left and shoot the ball up the ramp, the spinner makes a killer sound. I think all Williams pinballs have killer sound effects and still sound modern today.

For video games though, Sinistar still scares the shit out of me when it yells RRRRROOOOAAAAAARRRRRRR!!!!!

I may have said this already but from Gauntlet 2 when you use the teleporters..sounds like something out of Star Trek .

I also love the 1UP sound effect from Sonic.

I actually like the sound Pitfall Harry makes when he dies in Super Pitfall(NES)..sounds like they lifted that off an Atari game.

I hated Prince of Persia for Sega CD, but I did like the yell your character made as he fell to his death (just before falling on spikes, yummy!).

The sound on Art Of Fighting when you screw up the bonus stage. The ultimate "Durrh?" sound. :)

The coin inserted sound of Defender is probably my favorite sound effect (it may have been used on other Williams games/pinballs too).

Other favorites:

Frogger coin inserted

Marble Madness (and other similar era Atari games) coin inserted

Magna Save on Black Knight 2000

Robotron between stage sounds

If theme songs count, then my favorite is BallBlazer on the 8-bit computers. It is so catchy, that to this day, I find myself humming it at times. :)

I just looked it up on Youtube, at first I thought "yeah, nothing special at all", but now, several minutes later, I can see your point: It's hopelessly stuck in my head ;)

How about Frenzy? At least on the ColecoVision the jingles throughout the game are hilarious in contrast to what is supposed to be an ominous game play. It's one of those rare deals where sound can add fun to game play.

Here's one I've fallen in love with recently - it's the sound when I put Pressure Cooker in my 7800, turn it on and there's a bunch of vertical bars on the screen in pink, yellow, black etc...

Pretty much any of the Williams sounds.

"Beware, I Live!"

Any of the Wizard of Wor speech... ta ta ta

The relentless Space Invaders beat of the marching invaders.

The awesome soundtrack for Reactor... the rest of its sounds weren't bad either.

And music to Bubble Bobble.

The death sound in Pac Man arcade.

The sound after jumpman jumps a barrel in Donkey Kong.

The high score sound on Battlezone.

ditto on Pac Man - just hearing the sound of dying in that game takes me back in time.

who needs a de Lorean and a lightning strike with memories like that !icon_wink.gif
