jeremysart #1 Posted August 19, 2009 Is there anyone else out there that would like to see an Intellivoice that would match the Intellivision II and its Components (Computer Module, System Changer, Synthensizer) ?? We already have a prototype design, and PLENTY of loose intellivoices around. But who or where could make the mold possible, or mod the internals of the intellivoice to fit it? How much would something like this cost?
+GroovyBee #2 Posted August 19, 2009 Some thoughts :- 1) A new mould will be expensive, probably more than $2500 without the engineering time to design it in the first place. 2) I think that you'd be better designing your product to fit the available plastics instead of modifying the plastics to fit your board. You'll have far fewer headaches that way. Just take the existing Intellivoice PCB and make measurements as to its size, where slots and holes etc are needed and component height restrictions then transfer that information into your PCB package and create the new layout accordingly. 3) Is your PCB going to be SMT or pin through hole? How many units are you expecting to make? If its a small run (less than 30 or so) then you're better making them yourself. It all depends on your soldering skills and what you expect to charge for the final product.
+5-11under #3 Posted August 19, 2009 (edited) Hi jeremysart, I'm guessing the Intellivoice "I" sits too far forward in the Intellivison II, which is why the internals would require modification? For the molding, I'd consider doing it yourself... although it's going to be a lot of work... make your own mold, and cast the parts yourself. Probably not a project for the faint of heart. That grill on the top might need to changed... . Good luck, 5-11under edit: I don't own an Intellivision anymore, but it sounds like a great idea. Tempest #4 Posted August 19, 2009 I'm guessing the Intellivoice "I" sits too far forward in the Intellivison II, which is why the internals would require modification? Not as far as I know. Other than not matching the styling of the Intellivision II, the Intellivoice works just fine. This seems like a very expensive project for a purely cosmetic issue. Then again, I use a Intellivision I with an Intellivoice and a brown European ECS so only the music keyboard doesn't match. I have no need of the system changer. KIWASABI #5 Posted August 20, 2009 Out of all the Atari systems and Colecovision, I'd say the Intellivision gets the least amount of love around here. I'm a fan of it but I wouldn't probably buy it, just to be honest. I don't see you recouping your costs, unfortunately. However, one of the major complaints about the Intellivision is its controllers; people hate the disc. Maybe you could make special joystick controllers for the Intellivision instead? Now *that* would be something that people would buy for even as much as $50; the only alternatives (that I know of) are the ones that slide over the disc and I heard those are cheap and will snap right off. Anyway, just an idea on how to make a little bit of money with the Intellivision. -Adam

Tempest Yeah, it is a cosmetic thing. Ive always thought it would be cool to see all four system pieces hooked together and matching. By the way, how did you happen upon the brown euro ECS? Ive always wanted one of the to match the Intv I. Its a bummer the Intv dont get a lot of love around here, its a great system.

Long time ago. I think I got it from Australia. I'd part with it as I have a perfectly good white model, but it would cost you. It does look ultra snazzy though... You're the second or third person to ask me about it in so many months. Are the brown ECS units that rare? Tempest

To be honest, I dont really even see the US white ones a whole lot. In the past year I think ive only seen one ECS on eBay, and the one at Destiny games. If your willing to part though, let me know what you would take for it! Then we could meet up at Destiny or something.

I honestly don't know what I'd want for it or even if I want to sell it. I don't even know what the white ones go for. Tempest
Bill Loguidice #10 Posted August 20, 2009 The white ECS' seem to pop up regularly in my experience. I have three white ones myself, though I'm not sure if every single one works 100%.

jeremysart #12 Posted August 23, 2009 The Memories this was back in 2004 I no longer have this Damn, where did you get that shelve? Its perfect for the Intv II and its hardware! I came across a synthesizer in the box for $25, I snatched it up!
chrisbid #14 Posted August 24, 2009 what if you gutted an intellivision 2600 adapter for its case. i dont have the exact dimensions in front of me, but that may be a cheaper way to go... and if you feel guilty about gutting a working 2600 adapter, put its guts back into the original intellivoice to make a 2600 adapter that matches the intv
