Lendorien #1 Posted August 23, 2009 (edited) It seems like by the time Nintendo came out it was common to have a full musical title screen. From what I've seen a lot of 2600 games have a few opening notes or no music at all. This is especially true with the earlier games. I know this has probably been asked before, but what Atari games do you feel have the best (or most technically amazing) music? (Specify if it's homebrew) For that matter, what are the earliest 2600 games with either a full musical splash screen or even better, in game music? Commando fits that last criteria. Asteroids might at a stretch. Any others? Edited August 23, 2009 by Lendorien

Never played any of the others. REACTOR!!! I agree with frenchman's list, but Reactor needs to be on it as well. Never played that one. Have to look up the ROM. I guess I'm sort of curious about game music in Atary 2600 games. I heard the theme from California Games for the first time yesterday. It was the first time I'd heard anyone do something so complex in a 2600 game. I know the music chip for the 2600 was limited, so I'm curious about it. +Omegamatrix #11 Posted August 24, 2009 http://atarimania.com/2600/dumps/play.php?ID=11583 Hands down. Nah, Pitfall II had a special chip. That's cheating. IMHO this takes the prize. The music simply gets riveting towards the end, and it has most artistic graphics done on the VCS... ever. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/133587-doctor-a-new-demo-by-trilobit-for-the-atari-2600

Thomas Jentzsch #13 Posted August 24, 2009 IMO it has to be one of the homebrews. I won't mention a name here, since I am biased, obviously.
vaderlover #14 Posted August 24, 2009 I must agree with the first post! Snoopy goes the extra distance by having an "ending theme". ET, Frogger and Smurfs follow.

First off all, It's great, and it CHANGES DYNAMICALLY- like Pitfall II but better, and has more changes, I think. And, the opening bit, you have to listen to the music to find the first item you need. Clown Down- most depressing in game music ever. Closely seconded by the race results screen of Atari Karts. Bobby is Coming Home- sweet. Nuff said.

homerwannabee #22 Posted August 24, 2009 Ms. Pac-man. I am not saying the title screen Ms. Pac-man song. I am talking about the music that plays when you boot up Ms. Pac-man the wrong way, and then reset the game. You will get this crazy psychotic music that constantly repeats every few seconds.
