Which of the retro consoles is the best to buy?

Recommended Posts

There are several of those clone consoles that play NES, SNES and genesis but some have issues with sounds, game compatability, colors not accurate, etc

which one of the bunch is the best one?

What's making you consider buying one of those?

For the price of any of them, you should be able to buy the real thing. Don't the clones generally go for $20-40? You should be able to pick up a NES or SNES for that, and you should be able to get a Genny for $10.

I always saw the clone systems as catering to people who just want to relive the good old days but don't want to deal with eBay or used game shops. Those old systems are ubiquitous enough that they can be found just about anywhere. I look at the clone systems as equivalent to some company coming out with a new model of VCR. The market is flooded with used VCRs so that someone who wants to go back and watch their old VHS tapes should have no problem finding one cheap and used, but lots of people don't like buying used goods, I guess.

Agreed, go for the real thing. Depending on what games you want to get, you may be able to find one that's backwards compatible with the games you like while running a newer generation of games that is all its own.

Yeah, gotta say, go for the originals. If you insist on a clone for convenience, the Retro Duo is a decent choice. I haven't yet found a Genesis clone I ever liked, and frankly a genesis isn't hard to come by for five dollars.

Although harder to find and thus more expensive, the original Nintendo top-loader, or "NES 2", seems to be a wise investment.

It plays both NTSC and PAL games, doesn't have the lock-out mechanic - so no trouble with third-party games - but IS a genuine Nintendo product, and also because it's top-loading, you won't have trouble with worn-out contacts like with the original design model.

I have a Yobo brand Famicom Twin, it has been excellent, no hardware problems, plays all games just fine, including SNES titles that use the SuperFX chip.

The same company also has the Turbo Trio, an NES/SNES/GEN in-one system with a hybrid paddle that would please both the Nintendo and Sega fan boy!
