Anyone know where I can find a list of games released for the 400?

Recommended Posts

I need to know primarily all of the games released for the 400, as I have had one for so long, but have very few games for it.

Were all games for the 8-bit compatible with both the 400 and 800, or were there 800 games that did not work on the 400?

Are all/ most of the 400 games backwards compatible with the 1200XL?

Thank you!

Hello!

Here's one place to start: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/atari-8-bit/faq/

There were many games released for both, some for 32K and up, some for 48K and up, and later some that only worked with 64K and higher.

Some games only worked on the 400/800 and some only on the XE/XLs. The FAQ may help with this.

Remember, most 400s only had 16K, but some were upgraded. And then the Operating System for the XL and XE also made a difference for some games.

Have fun with your 400! Most, if not all, of the early cartridges work fine on the 400 (the green ones).

I'm not sure about all the compatibility questions, but atarimania.com has a list of 8-bit games.

Click on "400 800 XL XE" on the right side, then Advanced Search at the top, leave the fields blank to search all categories. I like atarimania's list because of the option to only search for cartridges.

Thanks for the info!

Anyone have any suggestion as for good games?

I have the basics, Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Galaxian, and Star Raiders.

I hear there is a version of Arkanoid!?

There is and it's called Super Breakout way better than the Arkanoid series of games whichhad too many extra lives to make them any sort of a challenge ;)
