atarian63 #26 Posted September 11, 2009 (edited) Happy 10th anniversary to the Sega Dreamcast, Sega's last and best home gaming console!!! Curt Love mine, I bought a japanese models a few months early for a few hundred and HOD 2 for $200. It was sooo great, still like it. Has one of the best controllers ever! This was the last new system that got me really excited. Nothing since has had the thrill.. Edited September 11, 2009 by atarian63
DrLove0378 #27 Posted September 15, 2009 (edited) My Dreamcast story isn't long, but it's memorable. I didn't get mine on 9.9.99 -- I got it on 12.27.01, long after it had officially been cancelled. Towards the end of 2001, retailers were blowing out Dreamcast systems for $49.99, as you all know. I waited too late to decide I wanted one; consequently, I couldn't find any locally. So one night, I took a ride with my dad -- he was going in search of some new luggage. He wanted to look in the Marshalls store at San Jacinto Mall (Baytown, TX) -- we live about 70 miles from there. That mall was (still is) a DUMP -- it's even featured on deadmalls DOT com. The mall did have a nice arcade, though unfortunately, we didn't have time to stop there. He got the luggage he wanted, so on the way out, we took a look in Sears just for the hell of it, not really expecting to find anything -- much to my surprise, in the electronics section, there was one lone Dreamcast, locked in the showcase. YES! So I quickly snapped that sucker up. Just as they say "it's always in the last place you look," I never saw another new Dreamcast again, anywhere. Who knows? Since that sale price had already been in effect a while by then, that was probably "the last one in the wild" -- which made it all the more exciting! (And yes, I know a huge stockpile was found years later.) That was probably the cheapest mainstream console I would ever buy, that was brand new and untouched by human hands. The game inventory in most places dried up soon after, so I only came to like a couple of its games -- Crazy Taxi and Jet Grind Radio. Haven't played much else on there. That being said, those two were well worth the price of admission. What I really wanna do, though, is get ahold of a VGA box and play it on my HDTV. hex65000 #28 Posted September 16, 2009 The Dreamcast was one of the machines that got me into serious console game collecting. A friend of mine had one set up and we played a ton of Soulcalibur and Gauntlet Legends. Both were awesome. I eventually scored one; it was my first used system which turned out to be well... gross. I wound up throwing pieces of it away it was so nasty. (bugs) I had also started buying them up by the ton on EBay and have amassed a pretty comprehensive collection of titles. I do tend to miss out on the J-bullet-hell shooters that have come about recently, but it's still a great system. I did play some DC over the weekend too. Specifically Crazy Taxi (classic arcade goodness), Mr. Driller (I am secure in my manliness despite that Mr. Driller wears pink), and Dino Crisis (which was overall similar but different to the disappointing game that Capcom cranked out for the PS1). That is all. Hex. [ Mistah Dillah! <bom> <bom> <pish> <bom> <bi> <bom> <pish> ]
