godzillajoe #1 Posted September 12, 2009 Even to just display an image in 3D when viewed through the red/blue glasses?
Pitfall Harry #2 Posted September 12, 2009 Of course, it is possible. Haven't you ever played 3-D Tic-Tac-Toe? Atari did that one back in 1978.

Animan #5 Posted September 13, 2009 Well, flickering back and fourth between red and blue, and changing the position would definitely make it possible. Rad Racer on the NES is proof that this technique works. (Unfortunately, my TV doesn't like it, so only one color works correctly. I have tried every pair of 3d glasses i could find. Oh Well )
4Ks #6 Posted September 13, 2009 Yeah, its possible. In fact, I made myself a perfect port of Star Fox for my Atari 2600 the other day.

Video #16 Posted September 17, 2009 Due to resolution, depth would be very limited, but all you really want is to be able to tell "ts is closer, this is further away" and yeah, the 2600 could do that fairly easily. Maybe take something like Tac-scan and have a foreground and background field with ships coming along both, and you gotta switch from foreground to background to get them all. Could be doable, and if you don't have more than 3 clustered ships per scanline, you could even do it without flickering.

littleman jack #18 Posted September 19, 2009 The homebrew game Skeleton + pulls off a 2600 3D effect pretty well.

I knew it the 2600 was about to take over the world with it's awesome 3dness, but it was stopped by aliens.
