Mendon #1 Posted September 14, 2009 If anyone tries Darkest of Days out, PLEASE post your opinion of it! I'm really interested in the game as I like FPS's and the plot sounds original and fun. But I'm very hesitant to rush out and lay $50 on the counter for it because the last time I bought a game "that was an FPS and had an original and fun sounding plot" without researching it was Turning Point, a game that was a miserable piece of crap and had no redeeming qualities whatsoever. I've put Darkest of Days on my GameFly rental list but would really like to hear impressions from anyone here that tries it out. Mendon
Red 5 #2 Posted September 14, 2009 Out of 10 possible points IGN - 3.6 GamePro - 4.0 Team Xbox - 3.8 Sounds like I would avoid it like the swine flu. Keep that GameFly spot open another week or two for this!
moycon #3 Posted September 14, 2009 Yeah, I've heard it's pretty dismal. Although to be fair, Civil War: A Nation Divided also got pretty crappy reviews and I had a decent time getting through that one.
xg4bx #4 Posted September 16, 2009 seriously, this game is the reason i rebought a 360, im that much of an alternate history fan. personally id give it a 7. yes its amateurish, but i expect that considering that this is the 1st game from these devs, on a "budget" label to boot. the graphics, while not great, are adequate. theres some impressive smoke effects and they fit a rather large number of enemies on scrren, the most ive personally seen in a fps. the controls are smooth and your standard call of duty layout. the enemy a.i. is adequate, its more about sheer numbers than individual enemy challenge. the gameplay throws some genuinely impressive set-pieces your way, theyre interesting for sure i.e. first game ive ever seen a ww1 mustard gas attack in and the civil war combat is fairly realistic. there is also the gameplay mechanic of certain enemies being surrounded by a blue aura, these are soldiers deemed important to history so you have to capture or wound them instead of killing them. the only glaring problem with the game is that its unpolished, it feels like a low budget game but i can forgive that. personally i think a 3.5 is ridiculous, to me that means the game is unplayable. if you have xbox live they just put up a demo and mark from classic game room on youtube posted a pretty positive review the other day with alot of gameplay footage.
