StanJr #1 Posted September 17, 2009 Does anyone know if the original version of Myst will run on Vista? I know they have released an anniversary edition or some such with improved graphics, etc., but I was really hoping to revisit the original original. MagitekAngel #2 Posted September 17, 2009 (edited) I gave up trying with the original CD and bought the Anniversary Edition bundle with Riven and Exile - it was five bucks in the bargain bin at Best Buy. That got Myst working, but it would crash once in a while without warning. Riven is a bitch to get to run in any form on XP or Vista. A shame, too, because that one is my favorite. The games also want you to downgrade Quicktime, which for me was a very, very messy process. Edited September 17, 2009 by MagitekAngel

I myself do not have the gaming patience for such a game, fun to watch though.
StanJr #4 Posted September 17, 2009 I do have an old laptop that runs Windows 2000, I think. Does that help my compatibility?
MagitekAngel #5 Posted September 17, 2009 Can't say for sure if 2K is better, but it's a lot closer to XP than Vista is, and XP is a lot easier for getting those games to run. Or you can wait for Windows 7, which is supposed to have a much more robust compatibility mode.
Bruce Tomlin #6 Posted September 19, 2009 Does anyone know if the original version of Myst will run on Vista? The "original" version of Myst was on the Macintosh, so no. (they actually hacked up Hypercard with a bunch of extensions thrown in for the graphics)
Nalates #7 Posted September 19, 2009 Does anyone know if the original version of Myst will run on Vista? I know they have released an anniversary edition or some such with improved graphics, etc., but I was really hoping to revisit the original original. I think so. I have several older Myst games running my Vista 32. Ages Beyond Myst currently. I don't remember if I've run Myst since I changed to Vista. You can get help from the Myst community at Myst Online Uru Live... MOUL. Other places you can try are Uru Obsession and the Guild of Writers The communities were very active. Since the close of Myst Online in April 2008 activity has been decreasing. The game was to go open source this Spring. That has yet to happen. We are still hoping for later this year. If so thing will revive. There is a large contingent of Myst fans in Second Life. Look for the group D'ni Refugees to connect. If you are a Myst fan and have not visited Second Life check out the Second Life Help for Explorers on the Guild of Maintainers' site. Many of the areas of Ages Beyond Myst have recreated in SL. Not the same, but if you played ABM they bring back good memories.
