2600Lives #1 Posted September 19, 2009 So, my 360 it seems is jacked up. It's not reading discs correctly. I'll put in a game, it'll act like it's reading it, then just say "Open Tray", and I'll have to do this upwards of 20 times before it'll recognize the disc and let me play. So, I'm gonna send it in for repair, but I'm not sure how to go about doing this. I know I can go to the Microsoft site and they'll send me a pre-paid box to send it off in, BUT, do I need to send in my hard drive, too? The system is less than a year old, so I've already done a license transfer within the year period. Do I need to send in the HD so they can transfer the licenses, or does it key to the particular box (if they have to replace it, though, I'll need a transfer anyway). Just curious if anyone has done this before.

I am not sure if they are still sending prepaid boxes, can't remember, maybe just prepaid postage?? And I don't think you send in the faceplate either. moycon #3 Posted September 19, 2009 They don't send you a box anymore. Create a repair case on http://www.xbox.com, and you should be able to print off a pre-paid shipping lable. You probably will not be asked to send your HDD in. They don't need it to do a licence transfer. You may have to re-download stuff when you get the unit back though. Don't panic, it should only take a couple seconds per download.
2600Lives #4 Posted September 19, 2009 Yeah, I've done the re-download thing already, when I got my current box (my other one died last year). Don't own a printer (how crazy is that?), so I'll see if I can get the box. If not...dunno what I'll do.
16-bit #5 Posted September 19, 2009 You can also transfer you licenses, if need be, online. I just transferred mine the other day. It's really simple and only takes a minute.

I've already done a license transfer within the year period. You can only do that once in a years period 16-bit. If you want to do it sooner, you have to call support. Stupid I know. NE146 #8 Posted September 19, 2009 You don't really need to transfer licenses unless it bugs you that you can't play games like Pacman CE while offline. Matter o' fact I move my hard drive between three different 360's. It's associated with none of them. I'm pretty much never offline anyway, and even if I was, it wouldn't be such a big deal that I can't play the full version xblive games for that time. moycon #9 Posted September 20, 2009 (edited) I'm pretty much never offline anyway, and even if I was, it wouldn't be such a big deal that I can't play the full version xblive games for that time. Sometimes playing online isn't an option (maintenance, DSL outage etc...) And it doesn't just affect Live Arcade games. Ever try to boot up and run Oblivion with your DLC expansions you purchased when not online? Unless they've since fixed it...you can't. It's not a big deal when compared to some other injustices in the world, and no one said it was, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck especially when you go to play your $69.99 Collectors edition of Oblivion with around $40 of downloaded content and you can't. (Yes, I'm speaking from experience.) Edited September 20, 2009 by moycon
