Why no 'after life' support for Colecovision?

Yeah, Cabbage patch kids kinda sucked. No I didn't have one as a kid, never knew what the hype was about (just knew granneys were apparently shooting people in the face to get the last ten at their local stores) But it was one of those in and out things, here one year, gone the next.

 

Exclusive rights and stuff is one thing, but they made like a billion of the things....and when the love died, they had warehouses full of the things. They shreaded, burned, and burried them just to get rid of them. It wouldn't havve been so bad, except they let Coleco slip in order to get the line.

 

I personally think, had Coleco (system) continued to get support, it would have ran head to head with the Nintendo at least a couple of years. Yes, Nintendo did some things the Coleco couldn't...stock wise, such as the nice smooth scrolling like Mario, but I fully believe they could have pulled off a game or to to prove it was possible, maybe with an expansion modual..

They could have (and should have) supported the CV for years, easily, by continuing to port over gems from the huge MSX game library. They didn't really need CV specific game developers.
