Shannon #1 Posted September 23, 2009 So I have a question about this rehash, err, sequal, uhhh whatever it is. Figured I'd start a thread since I didn't see any and I'm sure some of you already got this game and are playing it. Does firefight allow more than 2 people on system link. In other words can 3 or more people play firefight on system link? Or is it limited to live only? Thanks..
Rev #2 Posted September 23, 2009 halo odst...........i dont feel like paying 60 bucks for what amounts to an expansion pack. i will wait for it to drop in price...maybe 30.
Zeptari1 #3 Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) Quick question..... how much hard drive space dose disk 2 take up? Can i install disk 2 to my hard drive then insert disk 1, and leave it in. and then access all of halo:odst and the multiplayer maps all at once? i looked all over the internet and didn't find any info... -rick nevermind..... i found it,from joystick.com: Should I install either game disc on my hard drive? While both game discs can be installed on an Xbox 360 hard drive, only Disc One was optimized for installation (a mere 3.5 GB). (Note: Disc Two should not be installed, as doing so will hinder online performance.) There's no clear benefit to installing Disc One aside from slightly reduced load times. For example, you can not run the Disc One content off of your hard drive using Disc Two in the system tray, which would eliminate the need for disc swapping. I think the setup stinks!!! I was hoping on installing one of the disks and leaving the other disk in the tray. like it's expalined above.... Just finished the campaign last night. It definitely does not feel like your playing an expansion or a Halo 3 rehash. The storyline is all self contained and the game play is slightly different than on regular Halo. Since you're not Master Chief, you can't be so gung ho with groups of enemies due to the lack of shields. My only gripe is that the Firefight game mode doesn't support matchmaking. Meaning you can't get matched up and play with random people. It has to be with friends or recent players. Also Zeptari1, the load times aren't bad at all. They're actually pretty quick. So installing to the hard drive isn't really necessary. Edited September 23, 2009 by 16-bit
Shannon #5 Posted September 24, 2009 Thanks for the info. Halo 3 is one of the few games my wife likes to play co-op, etc, on. So I'll have to consider picking up an extra copy of ODST for 3 player firefight via systemlink. I've only played thru the 1st two levels and I kinda like the way they have the story line set-up. Definitely gives a different experience than that from Halo even though it takes place in the Halo universe. Although it does seem to diminish a little bit master chiefs abilities over the average ODST.
Video #6 Posted September 24, 2009 I initially thought ODST was just an "expansion" as well, but damn, I played it for longer than I did Halo3 and still haven't beaten the campaign. Yeah, multiplayer is going to be a rehash of Halo3, but the main game is really good. Awesome game, turned out better than I thought it was going to, so thumbs up to that, as for multiplayer, I'll stick to Unreal tournament
+remowilliams #7 Posted September 24, 2009 I have to say, that I do like ODST though not as much as Halo proper. It probably did take me as long or longer to do the campaign as it did to finish Halo 3. And it had a nice (but not exactly award winning) storyline progression binding it all together. It was nice to fight the Covenant in someone else's shoes, and boy is it immediately apparent that you are not the uber soldier Master Chief.... One complaint - map reuse - Argh!! But it does take place inside a city, so there's some slack to be given there. Multiplayer co-op as always is loads of fun, and the firefight modes are nice too.
Shannon #8 Posted September 25, 2009 I dunno... outside of health issues the ODST still seems pretty powerful. You can pick up turrets just like master chief and if I didn't know better the ODST seems to move faster while carrying it. You can flip over vehicles... (They must not be as heavy as I thought they were). You can jump onto a Phantom bang on it till it busts, and plant a grenade, etc, just like master chief. Maybe all my playing of GOW 1 & 2 lately has improved my skill, but it seems I can off players from a distance with normal weapons a lot easier. No radar, but you do have a map of the city, with way markers and other neat stuff. Oh and while the map is up you can see the enemy moving around. Night vision.. Again it may just be from me playing GOW but the enemies seem like they've gotten stupider. Disadvantages... No regenerating shield (sorta).. Can't dual wield weapons. There's more but I had to run...
+remowilliams #9 Posted September 25, 2009 Yeah you still can absorb a rather lopsided amount of damage, but the tougher guys have an easier time of killing you than the MC. As far as ripping off turrets - I thought that was odd but not nearly as odd as flipping vehicles... What are they made out of, tissue paper?
16-bit #10 Posted September 25, 2009 Yeah you still can absorb a rather lopsided amount of damage, but the tougher guys have an easier time of killing you than the MC. As far as ripping off turrets - I thought that was odd but not nearly as odd as flipping vehicles... What are they made out of, tissue paper? But if you couldn't flip vehicles you would hardly be able to get through half the levels. I really enjoyed how they made it feel so different from Master Chief. I died a whole lot of times in the first level or two before I got that rechargeable shield Spartan mindset out of my head. Even large groups of grunts can give you trouble as an ODST. The Hunters are the worst though. If you were low on grenades or you didn't have a gravity hammer, watch out! Half the time I just ran. Plus they're smarter! I had one chase me up into one of the buildings and kill me.
Shannon #11 Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) Yeah I was surprised one time when I went up some stair to an apparent dead end, only to turn around and see a hunter staring at me! Sure it's harder to run in guns a blazing, but I find it odd that the melee (B button) seems to do about as much damage to the brutes as with Halo 3. I usually take out the enemy in the following order snipers, turrets or phantoms, brutes, then the grunts and those shield guys. Oh and if someone is floating around on a ghost, depending on how much trouble they are giving me I might turn my attention to them. There's one level where you're simply overrun by enemy so there is not much you can do. I just grabbed a turret and retreated... I did manage (once) the other day to take out a hunter with a rocket launcher... Quick question. Does turning on the skulls mess up mission progress for the "rookie" missions? My son completed a bunch of scenarios but only one is checked off in the "rookie" mission screen. I noticed he had a few skulls turned on and I told him to try those scenarios with the skulls off. rxd #12 Posted September 25, 2009 It's funny but I'm surprised at how un-Halo like this game is. Sure you can tell it's in the Halo universe and all but it feels very different to me. Don't get me wrong, I really like it, but it's way different than I expected. Guess I was just expecting it to be a Halo 3 clone with all this talk of how it's just some sort of glorified expansion pack.
Video #13 Posted September 25, 2009 Yeah, I guess it's perspective. I find it nice that the game still feels like the Halo universe, but it seems quiet a bit different in some ways. Alike, well, ripping off turrets (though technically, regular guys had to set it up so there's no real reason to believe they couldn't carry it) Flipping Vehicles...WTF?!!? Then again the warthog's shape could allow it to be unstable upside down, but the scorpion, fuck that. You can still use all the alien guns. Different a LOT easier to get fucked up, it's not a run'n'gun game like other Halo's. No dual wielding, which doesn't make sense beyond trying to separate it from other halo's Anyhow, I'm definately happy with it, hope to see more of these games in the future. Yeah it recycles levels, but it makes sense with the games story (unlike the "library" on CE, which was just there for artificial lengthening)
Foxy Cleopatra #14 Posted September 26, 2009 Having a great time with the game! Through it twice on Legendary. Can't wait for moycon to get it to go through it again with him, and hopefully, Breakpack!
moycon #15 Posted September 26, 2009 Having a great time with the game! Through it twice on Legendary. Can't wait for moycon to get it to go through it again with him, and hopefully, Breakpack! You know the story. I won't be getting an official ODST controller, unless I want to pay out the ass for it...but I will get the game, very soon. (I'm hoping tomorrow because it shipped a couple days ago) Trying to talk Jeff into snagging a copy as well. Floods kind of kill video game purchases though! Video #16 Posted September 26, 2009 Wow, that sucks dude! (i mean the floods) Yeahk, get all your friends to get this, it's going to be a lot more fun IRL, but the online wouldprobably be cool to, especially if you can find some dudes that will just feck around instead of trying to prove how leet they are or whatever. 16-bit #17 Posted September 27, 2009 Well once we can get a foursome together, it's Firefight time! I've been itching to play with four people.
Shannon #18 Posted September 27, 2009 Playing firefight with the family on system link. The three of us. Pretty fun..
Shannon #19 Posted September 27, 2009 Finished the campaign mode. When I got near the end I was like... Oh no, here we go again can't they do anything original? But I really liked the pace of that part and the firefight at the end was real good. Just wave, after wave, after wave of reinforcements...
Video #20 Posted September 28, 2009 Hell yeah, and it was mostly snipers and shielded brutes. I was like "AWESOME!!" and they finely put in the engineer dudes. Wonderd why they weren't in the other games, I understand the first game, it was the first, but from 2 on it's like "WTF?" Yeap, just floats its ass off. I just beat it on Normal, and am already half way through on Heroic, and MAN....AM I GETTING MY ASS KICKED!! This is going to be brutal on Legendary. Anyhow, awesome game. Yeah, I said it again. Hey, I saw the dumpster things, and they close when you walk up to them, and I was like "I wonder if I can get into one of thsoe (or if there's anything in it)" and I jumped in, and the lid slammed shut, and I was like "??!? What the!?! I'm STUCK!!" yeah, you can jump like crazy and get out, but I was trapped for a minute
moycon #21 Posted September 30, 2009 Playing the campaign right now . So far, so good.
moycon #22 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) Ok I'm well into the game now (Haven't beaten it yet but close) I'll admit I was afraid this was going to be a rip off. Come on a DLC update to Halo 3 being released as a full priced game? I actually only paid $40 for my copy, but wouldn't have felt ripped off at all if I had paid the full price. I'm already looking forward to playing through this game again with Foxy and Starscream (and anyone that want's to play but Starscream has already asked.) I must have played through Halo 3 a half dozen time (more probably) and I would play through that again right now because it never gets old. This game has that same feel to it. Two years from now I'll say hell yeah I'll play ODST and by then I'll have played through a half dozen times as well. I like the structure of the game. Reliving the past through broken pieces of a world torn apart by invaders who SUCK. Really gets your blood pumping. In Halo 3 I often got lost with no clue where to go next a Huge problem for someone playing meta games where finishing fast equals points. I don't know yet if ODST has meta games, but if it does, and you do get lost. Simply press up on the pad. Very nice for drunk folk. And I haven't even checked out the other stuff yet!!! Multiplayer!!? Foxy cover me, I'm going in!!! Edited October 2, 2009 by moycon
otaku #23 Posted October 2, 2009 loving the game so far played through some of the campaign with my bro and enjoying some online play as well
moycon #24 Posted October 2, 2009 Ok just a quick observation I had from early on in the game. Was that dude who starred in the TV show Firefly a voice actor in this game? There is a character in the game VERY close to what he looks likes. I suspect he did the voice work and they made the character to look like him. Pretty damn cool if you ask me. Immortalized forever in a kick ass video game. Can you imagine?
Shannon #25 Posted October 2, 2009 Hehe... I seriously considered getting just one month of live Gold so I could play co-op with you guys (and gals).
