How important

I replaced a switch on my heavy sixer and dont dare to try it because the foil that I guess is some kind of static strip is in pieces. Is this an important item. I'm going to replace it anyways but would like to test the system out.

This question would probably be better in the Hardware forum, might want to see if you could get this thread moved to that forum or start a thread there with this post hyper-linked to it.
