Does anyone know how long it took to make these videos? They're amazing! Seems like it would take a lot of work to get it just right though.

Dammit! I posted this a little while ago under general. Well, I guess I'll just link it to here.

That has to be the most horrendous thing I've ever heard. I LOVE IT!!! How do I get my printer to make sounds like that?

Anyhow, I figure the dude is getting the individual computers to play their parts and then stretching/compressing them in a music editor or something to get it to fit right. Back then, even the same exact computer may not have the same clock speed....and they didn't count good enough to just go by time instead of clock cycles.

Anyways, awesome video.

I suppose he is just speeding up the motors using some program. Who knows?

Glad folks like this video. I think it's very neat.

I'm more of a fan of songs that are re-made to sound like they came out of an 8-bit game. I used to have several but lost them when my HD died not too long ago.

All the above are amazing. How would you even begin to figure out how to do that? :ponder:

What the hell is a stepper motor? (as opposed to a standard motor?)

That doesn't seem as hard as getting computers to all synch up and such, after all, motors make sound when they operate, you just feed ingoing power through a pot of some kind and you can control the sound that comes out.

Sounds totally awesome....now I wanna hook one up to a Keyboard, taht would be cool :P

Only old computer I did anything with was the Commodore 64, loaded tapes and floppies (and carts, but they don't load exactly) and none of them make any of that horrible sound.

I guess if I played the cassettes in a standard tape player, it does have a pretty bad sound though (I think supercharger games at original speed sound cool though :P )

You should have had a TI99/4A and a Cassette Deck. Then you would have heard a symphony of screeching sounds. :D

A stepper motor has no need to decelerate , it can stop in a instant.

Instead of using current in a coil to affect magnetic fields ,

it uses a set of electromagnets to reposition the central shaft.

This allows for very precise movement and controlled speed variation.

They are used very much in robotics :)

A stepper motor is used in old printers and scanners. They were very efficient.

Cool to know. Never knew about them. Now I wanna go get the old junk printers and such and rip all those parts off of them too :P I got a box of interesting parts that I've jacked out of busted computers, monitors, printers etc. The only thing I actually have found useful uses for is the light bars (useually LED, though i got some flourecent ones) out of old scanners. I got lights all over my room from those old things
