have you ever hated a console?

Recommended Posts

I've never outright hated any console. Didn't care much for my ColecoVision when I had it but I'd attribute that more to the fact that neither of its controllers worked 100% correctly then dislike of its games. I really liked a couple of the games I had for it in fact and had I the money and will to get it fixed when I had it I'd likely have grown to love it.

Its funny, back around 1978 or so, I actually got one of those Studio II game systems and liked it for some reason. I think I liked the bowling game but that was it. I had one but got the 2600 very shortly thereafter and never looked back.

Zombie thread! anyway, I guess back then I used to say hate instead of dislike, but now it sounds kinda harsh...

Anyway, I don't like my xbox 1 that much either, I don't really have anything to play on it very much, and besides halo I don't have anything that I play on it often besides Battlefront. I'm thinking of Softmodding it, then I might like it a bit more and play emulators and stuff on it, but I have an old pentium 4 1.8ghz computer hooked up to my tv with a logitech controller, so that spot is already filled...

I can't say that I've hated any particular system that I've owned. As long as there is something worth playing & is affordable, I can enjoy the system. I think that the only one I am disliking is the wonderswan; it seems that some of the truly good games cost a surprising amount of $$. Beyond this, any hatred would be because of hardware failures, such as:

My NES and the infernal blinking screen (repaired)

The phat PS2 and its short-lived laser (repaired)

-and-

My 360 which had 3 or 4 RROD's. To date, this is the *only* system in my "personal collection" which I have given up hope of ever working right. It now sits in "detention", while a slim takes care of business. :D

I didn't buy a PS2 for a long while. I wasn't happy about the dreamcast being crushed by hype for a machine that turned out to be kinda inferior.

Sega killed the dreamcast, so don't blame the ps2 for it.

It isn't the graphics that make a system, it's gameplay and replay value. Those point where strong with the dreamcast, and could have been strong selling points. But Sega had just to much trouble with customer loyalty because of bad management before.

I cannot get into anything with phone-type controllers. I have tried. INTV has some gorgeous games, especially the audio, but I keep misplacing the overlays. The 5200 is a money pit, and since I wasn't aware of it's existance growing up and don't have any nostalgia associated with it, it is hard to justify maintaining one. The problem with the 5200, though, is after you've sunk so much dough and effort into it, it's hard to walk away until you have a perfect working setup.

7800 controllers are lousy, as is any controller with side firing buttons. However I do find the crummy 7800 sound chip to be quite charming. :)

PS1 games have not aged well, as is the case with some N64 games and early 3D in general. I do own both systems for a few specific games: PS1 for SotN, and N64 for Mario Kart and Goldeneye.

I do not understand the hatred for N64 controllers. They are nearly perfect as far as I am concerned, and can be held for hours.

I do lament the lack of backwards compatibily in the PS3 and 360. History should be preserved.

Nope. Even the consoles I didn't play much or didn't like much for one reason or another had at least one game that made it worthwhile. I can't believe some of the systems people say they hate. There are great games out there.

Back in the day I didn't like the Genesis as I was a Nintendo kid, but with age comes wisdom, now I have more Genesis games than SNES (both are slaughtered by the amount of NES games I own).

I don't really have a system that I hate based on its library, but I do hate the design of the fat PS2s and the lens issue for the old ones. If they did away with those flimsy ribbon cables (especially to the power/reset buttons) then they wouldn't be so bad to repair. I guess the 360 would also be on my list because of how faulty they were with heating/solder problems.

lol ok. It was pretty much uncharted territory, I wouldn't "blame" Atari specifically. Especially since the Vectrex was released in '82, and by that time, Atari and the other big players already had such a huge stronghold on the market, the Vectrex had the cards stacked against it already. So, if you're going to blame Atari for being so successful by the time the Vectrex was released, then OK, blame Atari.

Hate is a strong word. Just say you really, really, really don't like it. lol

If there is one console that I truly dislike, it's the original Xbox 360. Nothing but a myriad of reliability issues with those systems.

When I was a kid, a die-hard Atari 2600 kid at that, I hated Intellivision because of their Atari 2600-bashing commercials.

Hmmm, I went back and noticed I mentioned Colecovision but that was before I got a Yurkievision :D

Now I love my CV again. I guess I don't really hate any system but the one that I have the hardest time liking is the N64. Robotron 64 is awesome though.

No I like them all but sometimes the companies behind them irritate me to no end. All of them have at some point including Atari and most recently Microsoft.

That said, some consoles that I just don't like to play are the Virtual Boy and maybe my old Radio Shack Pong unit.

I've never hated any consoles. I've been angry with a few when they aren't working and I can't figure out why. (Sometimes have no sound on my Genesis model 2) I get frustrated when the batteries run down on my Saturn or Dreamcast VMU (I don't play them as much as I used to). But never hated any of them.
