Urchlay #2 Posted October 1, 2009 Does anyone know if these can be used with the SX212 Modem or can they only used with other modems? From what I remember, Telelink I would work with the 850 interface. You could hook the SX212 up to an 850 using its RS232 port (instead of the usual way of connecting directly to the Atari via its SIO port). Pretty sure Telelink II only worked with the 1030 modem, which is its own strange little beast, not compatible with anything else (except the XM301 maybe). One thing you could try: if you have a disk drive (or disk emulator such as APE), you could try booting DOS with one of the Telelink cartridges in. If DOS boots, then you should be able to use any modem, provided you have a driver for it, and a copy of the driver on a DOS disk as AUTORUN.SYS. The 1030 had a built in lame terminal program similar to telelink II, you could also load the T: handler from modem instead of loading it from disk. Im pretty sure telelink II would work with the 1030 and xm301 since the 835/1030/and xm301 were all pretty much the same thing (835 didnt have tone dialing or auto answer, 1030 had tone dialing, and xm301 had auto answer and tone dialing but aside from cosmetics and those minor features, although they seemed quite major back then they were the same). I remember the 1030's built-in terminal program... At one time, my only Atari disk drive was in the shop, and all I had was a working xm301 and a broken 1030 (it wouldn't go off-hook). I found out I could boot from the 1030, which would load up the built-in terminal program, then unplug the 1030 and plug in the xm301, and it actually worked (was able to dial out with the xm301). If I'd had to keep using it for long, I would have tried to fix the 1030, but it was only for a week until my drive got back and I could use 1030 Express again...
