StanJr #1 Posted October 1, 2009 Dungeon was waiting for me when I got home from work today! Oh happy day! This game is great! It's like Adventure's bigger, cooler, RPG brother. Very well designed and a lot of fun to play. The Dungeon is of pretty good size with plenty of different monsters to thwart your efforts and lots and lots to explore! I managed to defeat the Demon twice today (each time without the help of Excalibur no less!), but it wasn't easy! The best part about this game is the infinite (I assume) replayability. It is a LOT like Adventure it that way. Since the Princess, the Dragon, Excalibur, and the Cave of the Dead are all in different locations each time, no two trips into the Dungeon will be the same. Also, since you must track down at LEAST the Princess and the Dragon each time, you'll need to search every nook and cranny of the Dungeon to complete your quest. Leveling up and difficulty are pretty much spot on. The only slightly annoying aspect is that occasionally you'll trade "misses" with an enemy in battle for several rounds, but that is a very minor quibble and has minimal impact on the overall enjoyment. The treasure chests with combination lock traps are a stroke of genius! I wonder, the faerie respawns endlessly in the chests as does the spell book, but the elven boots do not. Do the crown and shield? I cannot recall getting them more than once. If they do not, then once you have them, opening the chest becomes a 50/50 proposition of getting the faerie or the spell book. Risky, you'd best need those spell points! Oh and I figured out what the Black Knight's special ability is: kicking my butt consistently if I get to level 6 before leveling up at least a little... Great great game! A must have for anyone who likes Adventure type games!
Albert #2 Posted October 1, 2009 Glad the game arrived safely and you're enjoying it! Will have to translate this into a review for the store once I put it back online. So...did you look at the label, manual and poster? ..Al
StanJr #3 Posted October 1, 2009 Yes, Albert! Of course I did! The map is exceptional and the kind of fun peripheral that you don't get so much anymore with modern games! (I wasn't sure everyone was going to get one, I didn't want to flaunt!) All of the production aspects are top notch, but I never expect anything less from and Atariage production! I plan on framing my poster. Will have to get a fancy double sided type of frame though since BOTH sides are excellent!

I might consider selling the posters separately for those who already purchased the game.. ..Al
s0c7 #6 Posted October 1, 2009 Dungeon was waiting for me when I got home from work today! Oh happy day! This game is great! It's like Adventure's bigger, cooler, RPG brother.High praise indeed! Many thanks Stan. Glad you are enjoying it! Since the Princess, the Dragon, Excalibur, and the Cave of the Dead are all in different locations each time, no two trips into the Dungeon will be the same. That was the general idea. As well as being able to complete in a reasonable time frame for those of us who are a bit older and don't have the free time we did when we were younger. Also, since you must track down at LEAST the Princess and the Dragon each time, you'll need to search every nook and cranny of the Dungeon to complete your quest. You don't HAVE to track down the princess, but it can be a bit of a downer if you don't. The only slightly annoying aspect is that occasionally you'll trade "misses" with an enemy in battle for several rounds, but that is a very minor quibble and has minimal impact on the overall enjoyment.Unfortunately things work out that way some times. Roll of the dice. I wonder, the faerie respawns endlessly in the chests as does the spell book, but the elven boots do not. Do the crown and shield? There is only 1 pair of boot, 1 shield, & 1 crown. There is also only 1 faerie, but she has a habit of getting around. There is a way to get her out of you life though (without flipping the difficulty switch) . Oh and I figured out what the Black Knight's special ability is: kicking my butt consistently if I get to level 6 before leveling up at least a little... Great great game! A must have for anyone who likes Adventure type games! Thanks again!
EricDeLee #7 Posted October 2, 2009 can we still order Dungeon? I've got a very itchy paypal ready to go... lol
Albert #8 Posted October 2, 2009 Indeed. The price is $25 plus $5 shipping. If you want the nice, double-sided Dungeon poster shipped separately in a tube so it's not folded, that will be another $5 (I recommend it). You can PayPal either $30 or $35 to [email protected] I also have Juno First and Incoming! available, for $25 each. No additional cost for shipping. ..Al

I can't wait to get some more moneys!!! xg4bx #15 Posted October 2, 2009 speaking of the store, any chance it'll be going back up soon? i'd like to order these games too but money is tight right now.
StanJr #16 Posted October 2, 2009 played a few more games tonight, was having real trouble finding the dragon, searched all of the lower floors inside and out, only to find him later on the 5th floor in a secret passage I didn't even know was there! Word to the wise, EXPLORE the Dungeon completely. Also, not sure what the ceiling is on leveling up, but I think I got pretty close trying to find that dragon. Oh and don't worry about keys, the early monsters shed them like crazy. Again, great game. I am having a blast! Maybe one day I'll work up the courage to leave the princess behind and see what happens if you defeat the Demon leaving her behind...

toymailman #18 Posted October 2, 2009 I just posted about this in a different place. This is a great adventure game that reminds me of Telengard. I played this a bunch when I got home from the PRGE show and mapped all the levels (and the cave), saved the princess, and killed the Demon. You can just kill the Demon and leave the princess, but the end screen is not as "cheery". Simply an awesome game with good replayability.
moycon #19 Posted October 2, 2009 (edited) All of the production aspects are top notch, This was my first thought when the goods were exposed after tearing open the package. Seriously this is super high quality goods. You almost don't want to handle them too much for fear of ruining the luster (Yes they glow) I'm always amazed when a new home brew from AA comes into my hands. Can you imagine, if back in the 80's there was a game company called AtariAge (Hopefully the company was around before DataAge so they wouldn't be accused a copying) Not that it would matter. Data Age games have never had anything on games like Dungeon, Starfire, Skeleton+, etc... You guys would be millionaires many times over! Even the manual is a work of art. Outrageous production guys. I love it! Now onto the game. I'm a sucker for adventure games and this is one of the best available on the Atari 2600. A classic dungeon crawler (Think Telengard, one of my first favs on the C-64) on the Atari 2600 that doesn't suck? (Looks at Crypts of Chaos and Swordquest) Yes you'll find it here. David and Dave and Al, Thank you so much. Everyone that hasn't gotten this game yet owes it to them self to purchase a copy. Call it an early Christmas present if you have to. Call it a Halloween treat. Just get it now! Edited October 2, 2009 by moycon
Mayhem #20 Posted October 2, 2009 Guess I'll wait for my package to arrive, but that will likely be it's waiting for me when I return from the US... I played Dungeon quite a bit (see the WIP thread) so I had mapped all the levels IN MY HEAD during proceedings and was rattling through the levels quite quickly by the end on multiple plays, trying to spot any issues or bugs. Most likely I will fire this up for another journey back into the darkness...
disjaukifa #21 Posted October 2, 2009 All this Hype!!! I really need to get my butt off the couch and sell some stuff, this game sounds fun!!! It sounds like there is another thread where this game was developed and .bin was released . . . I'm going to have to go looking for it! -Disjaukifa
