Color image after seconds

Recommended Posts

When I turn on a six switch European VCS, I first get a BW image then, after seconds, I get color image.

This happens only when VCS is cold (after minutes, if I turn off and on, I get a color image without any delay).

Is it normal?

My Darth Vader VCS doesn't have this behaviour.

The chroma signal is handled differently between NTSC and PAL systems. Its normal for a PAL source to show up as B&W on an NTSC tv.

I'm guessing your TV has some kind of detection+adjustment for PAL sources that takes a few seconds to kick in.

My VCS is PAL and I live in a PAL country!

Moreover this behaviour disappears when VCS is used for circa ten minutes.

Hmm, souns like something is off either in the colour-burst or chroma circuitry.

Sometimes a change in behaviour after electronics warm up can mean a cold/cracked solder joint. (Though it could also be something else)

Thanks to an AA user I have found how to fix this problem!

Simply open VCS and turn clockwise the chroma potentiometer.
