Cupcakus #1 Posted October 18, 2002 Reading through my Raiders manual today, I noticed a reference to a special signature screen for a very high score... I know it has been stated that a perfect score on Raiders is impossible. Has this mystery screen ever been spotted? I've got it dissasembeled somewhere and I'm going to have to look at the code to see what adds and subtracts points to see if I can reach this supposed screen. Or does someone already know the secret? The atariage entry for this game states: "Enable the "Yar appearance" code. Then continue game play and obtain a high score. "HSW2", the initials of programmer Howard Scott Warshaw, will appear in the inventory after the game has been completed. Note: The "2" indicates that this was his second game." Is Yar Appearance really necessary? And how do you obtain a high score?
NE146 #2 Posted October 18, 2002 I think there was a major thread just around last year in regards to that.. try a search
Inky #3 Posted October 18, 2002 I've done this many times.... I'd go into details... Okay... Get the chai and a parachute. Go to the flying saucer mesa. While falling, drop the chai. You'll see the Yar appear. Then finish the game normally, and you get the HSW2. A hint to to arrange your inventory so that a parachute is next to the chai, that way when you drop the chai, the parachute is autmoatically selected and you can activate it. CrazyImpmon #5 Posted October 19, 2002 I know there is a thread on this, well over 100 posts. It was mostly programmers picking apart the game's source code for explaination on the mysterious "JD" initial and to figure out the scoring scheme. The conclusion is the perfect score would be impossible because apparantly the programmer changed something (likely related to JD thing) that caused the last few points not to be awarded at all. I've never been able to get to the black market from the main market, or figure out the lunatic.. I wonder if that trick needs to be done too.
Chris++ #7 Posted October 21, 2002 You don't need to mess around by bribing the lunatic or anything. All you need to do is not die at all, get the Yar (just run off the biggest mesa, drop the Chai, and then enable the parachute before you land -- then drop the parachute and escape to the north from the thief -- don't get your joystick buttons mixed up during this quick process!), and beat the game. If beating the game quickly is a problem for you, here's the solution I typed up for Albert: http://www.atariage.com/software_hints.htm...wareLabelID=393 Nothing extra is necessary to get the maximum points and see Warshaw's initials at the bottom. You don't have to visit the room with the big spider in it, don't have to kill any snakes, etc. CF
Scott Stilphen #8 Posted October 21, 2002 Inky: To get to the black market via the marketplace, offer the Chai to the sheik selling flutes. This will put you to the left of the raving lunatic. To get past him, offer him a bag of coins.
inextremis staple #9 Posted October 21, 2002 @ scott i knew you were supposed to offer him a bag o gold but do you need to stand in a certain place? sometimes it works when i drop him a bag and sometimes it doesnt is

I've never been able to do it, although I've always taken a long time to beat it. Do you have to beat the game in a certain amount of time to get the maximum score? Chris++ #13 Posted October 22, 2002 Sorry -- I meant the maximum score POSSIBLE. According to those more knowledgable than I, Warshaw had to take some things out of the game that now make his "original" maximum score completely out of reach, no matter what, in the version that's available. So I don't mean the original high score, which is impossible. I only mean the maximum points you can actually get in the finished product that we all know and love. Scott Stilphen #14 Posted October 22, 2002 IS: You have to be close to him when you drop it. I never tested to see if there's a specific area around him that you have to be in. I'll see what I can find... FYI - there's more info about the game at: http://www.digitpress.com/eastereggs/26rai...fthelostark.htm
Scott Stilphen #15 Posted October 26, 2002 If you are to the left of him, you can drop the coins anywhere in the area to the left of his 'attack line'. The effect (of dropping the coins) will last indefinitely unless you either touch him or walk past another hidden 'line" which is just before the basket. If you are to the right of him, you can drop the coins anywhere between the 2 lines.
