Region free Dreamcast w/ extra's

Recommended Posts

I'm asking for $40 plus shipping to anywhere in the US.

Included in this lot are

- 1 region modded Dreamcast (originally manufactured in US)

- 1 official Dreamcast controller

- 1 official LCD Dreamcast VMU

- 1 official Dreamcast composite cable

- 1 power cable

- 1 Utopia boot disc v 1.1

Everything is in excellent condition. I've test both US region games and JAP region games and both work(I don't own any PAL games, but I assume they would work to).

If you have any questions or would like any additional pictures please feel free to post here or PM me.

I'm not familiar with the Utopia loader, does that make it play burned discs?

I'd love a region free unit, especialy if you don't have to use a boot disc.

Just a quick note to anyone interested in this,.

I just want to make you aware how the Region mod works first so there is no confusion.

Normally you can play any region game on your DC with an import CD but you have to put it in every single time you turn the system off and then switch the CD once it's loaded. My system is ALOT easier.

I modded my dreamcast to be able to permanently change the region to US / JAP / PAL. I will include a region changer CD that will allow you to do this.

So to change regions you insert the Region Changer disc and flash the BIO's to the region of the game you want to play. Once the BIO's has been flash, it will stay that region until you decide to reflash it to another region. I will include printed instructions on how to change the region of this dreamcast (it's very easy but just incase you need step by step assistance I will provide them for you). The system is currently set to the US region.

So just so you understand if you want to play a JAP game flash the bios to the JAP region and it will stay that way (even if the console is turned off) and when you are done and want to play a US game you can reflash it to that region.

When I say reflash the BIOS there is no need to open the system at all, all you have to do is insert a CD and it prompts you to select the region you want your dreamcast to be.

As for the Utopia Bootdisc, when loaded into an unmodified Dreamcast, will allow user to swap out the Utopia disc for a burned CD (from wikipedia). Once loaded, the screen will display a spinning 3-D reindeer and a message to insert disc. The Dreamcast boots the disc instantly and displays the game on the screen.

They will. This mod was based on PAL systems to play NTSC games. Great deal on the price. Takes time and effort to do this mod.

I appreciate the info, I've never really owned any PAL games before, so it's good to know!

PS this item has official been sold.

Just wanted to add a "thumbs up" for specialt1212 - the Dreamcast arrived today and runs, well, like a dream. (urgh!)

I finally got to play two games of ours that were ported by Sega to the Japanese Dreamcast - "Hello Kitty Lovely Fruit Park" and "Get! Colonies". Both are based on our own game "Colony" (itself an evolution of Leland's Ataxx, which in turn is based on Othello/Reversi, which in turn is probably based on some guys throwing rocks at each other in a cave). I've had both disks on my shelf for ten years, but never got to see the ports in action... what a blast! Now I might have to find some other Dreamcast games. :)
