GrizzLee #1 Posted October 13, 2009 Just a heads up for Shump fans. Stopped by my local GameStop today on the way home to sift through the used games when I glanced up and saw Raiden IV sitting on the shelf. Who hooo..... Turns out it is a GameStop Limited Edition (whatever that is these days). It came with a soundtrack and a free internet download. The download isn't that spectacular. The game seems pretty solid though. It was a bit pricey though $40. Nice to see a shump on a new console though. We don't get many these days. -Lee

The soundtrack comes with the game. It's not a Gamestop exclusive. What was the download? That didn't come with the one I ordered from Amazon. I agree. $40 is a bit pricey. It definitely seems so after the Raiden Fighters Aces compilation with it's $20 price tag. But this one strikes me as better than Raiden III (which was $30 originally). Not only does it look a whole lot better, but the later levels are much more than Raiden III's bland turret arrays.

To be honest, I just glanced through it quickly. It did't hold my interest. It is on my other computer otherwise I'd post it. It will probably be posted somewhere soon. Yes, I agree it is better than Raiden III... which seemed to be a little bland. So far I'm liking R IV. Look at the leaderboards. The replay of the top guy is absolutely astounding. The last boss looks to be impossible to me. I doubt I will ever beat it. BTW: When you check his gamercard he has all the acheivements unocked for all the shooters. I can only hope to be 1/2 as good as him. -Lee

I am at work right now. I can check this evening. I think his gametag was in Japenese. If so, I doubt that I can get it. Just look at the leaderboards and check out the replays. -Lee

I thought things like this were hard to pass onto XBL in the same way that rapid fire devices and such are detected. Maybe not. This might be a good point for a new topic. I am not educated on modded XBOX 360s and cheat devices. Personally, I've never used them. My son, however, has stated that he and friends have booted some guys out of matches due to cheating. I've never asked him for details. Maybe I should. -Lee Edited October 16, 2009 by Lee Krueger
Lord Thag #8 Posted October 17, 2009 Lee, looks like you and I have similar tastes. I also picked this up. It's a good, solid shooter, very reminiscent of Raiden III. Definately a 'bullet-hell' type shooter. It's fun, but not the best I've played (I like Raiden FIghter Aces much better). All in all, I'd give it an 8. Good stuff. Apok #9 Posted October 17, 2009 It's definately on my list, unfortunately there's a couple of big games coming out that are taking higher precedence. I work at an EB and we've got a few copies (surprisingly), I think I'm the only one working there who actually plays shooters. I do suck pretty bad at them though, I must be a sucker for punishment. hex65000 #10 Posted October 27, 2009 I've been playig Raiden Fighter Aces for the past couple of days... Oh... I am so horrible at this game. And then the game told me so. The achievement: Shot down 256 times excluding your last fighter. <Doh!> Still, I've gotten a little better at the games, but clearing them is currently not in the cards anytime soon. Raiden 4 is tempting though. Hex. [ Needs to print off some diagrams... fun! ]
Gabriel #11 Posted October 28, 2009 I've been playig Raiden Fighter Aces for the past couple of days... Oh... I am so horrible at this game. And then the game told me so. The achievement: Shot down 256 times excluding your last fighter. <Doh!> Heh. How did I miss getting that achievement? Both of the Raiden games are pretty good. Raiden Fighters Aces is definitely the one to get first, as it's cheaper, has 3 games on the disc, and just strikes me as more fun. But after adding Aces to the collection, Raiden IV is definitely one to get if you like shooters. Still, I'd much rather see a localization of Thunderforce VI. A new Gradius that didn't suck ass like Gradius Rebirth would be good too.

Not sure how they'd cheat since you can watch their replay.
moycon #13 Posted October 28, 2009 Not sure how they'd cheat since you can watch their replay. A person can cheat and get achievements they haven't earned by hacking a game save. I was curious more about the achievements, not about any one play through of a game.
keilbaca #14 Posted November 6, 2009 I picked it up, and I really enjoy it. I personally liked Raiden Fighter Aces more though... Also if you guys want to check out another fantastic shoot em up name, look out for Twiddle. He's very good and is on the shmups.org forums.
shadow460 #15 Posted November 6, 2009 So how does this compare to Raiden II and the first Raiden Fighters? Those are my two favorites of the whole series, although I do enjoy Raiden III.
keilbaca #16 Posted November 30, 2009 So how does this compare to Raiden II and the first Raiden Fighters? Those are my two favorites of the whole series, although I do enjoy Raiden III. Its very similar to Raiden III in terms of graphics wise. Its fun, but I enjoyed Raiden Fighters Jet more. It does have an xbox 360 version that does add a couple extra levels from the arcade series. All in all its very fun, but the fast bullets happen a lot sooner in the levels than what they do in Raiden III, as compared to your slow ship.
+HammR25 #17 Posted January 27, 2010 This game is $20 at Best Buy and everyone's favorite store Gamestop right now.

Chris Leach #19 Posted January 27, 2010 Raiden is one of the best arcade shooter games I have ever played and it's so nice that it is finally here for the X360, but where is Sony at with this one?> Raiden on the PS1 is a classic, why can't they keep their roots? +HammR25 #20 Posted January 27, 2010 These aren't available online anymore but my local Best Buy still had several copies at lunch and the in store price is also $20.
Ghost Soldier #21 Posted February 2, 2010 Picked up my copy of Raiden IV last night. It was the last one my gamestop had in stock. I'd snag it while there still available.
Austin #22 Posted February 15, 2010 After reading this I snatched a copy at Best Buy, although I'm not quite saved up yet for another 360 unit.. This one will sit on the shelf and will be my first game when I get a new system. In the meantime, I'm digging the soundtrack that came with it.. Lots of cool remixes from old Raiden games.
