EGM (actually EGP at the time) pretty much told U.S. videogame players about it in 1988.

I do believe I have that guide kicking around somewhere. Very nice read with a full walkthrough for SMW. Only problem is my copy is in pretty rough shape. The pages started falling out so I had all the pages hole punched and put in a binder. Now the holes are ripping from abuse from "other" people. >_>

I remember several people having copys of the game on the weird carts and playing it before Mario Alstars. I wish I could find a copy today, but these bootlegs have become impossible to find, and Ebay takes the liberty of...erhem..."protecting" me from "pirate" (Famicom) versions of the game.

And by Bootleg, I mean just that, it was a standard greey NES cart that had SuperMario bros "4" (I think) on it, and several people had them, that I remember, at least around here.

Yep.

In Japan, Super Mario Bros. 2 (know to us as "Lost Levels") was a direct sequel of the first Super Mario Bros., which looked the same, with more some simple graphical changes, and more challenging levels.

So challenging in fact, they decided it was too hard for the American audience. They took a Famicom Disk System game called Doki Doki Panic, and simply replaced the character sprites with characters from the Mario franchise, and released it in the US as Super Mario Bros. 2 (known to them as Super Mario USA).

Haha, the funny thing is, it is hard to find bootleg Famicom games on eBay, but here is a bigger challenge.. Find a Game Boy or DS game on eBay that is not a bootleg :ponder:

You can find a mario 2 cartridge on gamereproductions.com for around $30.

I got that magazine along with the game when my grandparents got me an snes for christmas back when they were new. Then it got lost and my sister found it in the same place it's been since summer of 1992 in shit condition. All the pages were stuck together and it was bending in half.

Why were the pages stuck together? Do you have a Princess Peach fetish or something?
