Sgt.Pepper1983 #1 Posted October 17, 2009 I've heard Golden Axe Warrior described as a Zelda clone and Master of Darkness described as a Castlevania clone, but does anyone know any real details about these games? I'm getting some money for my birthday next month and trying to decide whether or not to get these games.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6_NijI6Ftk&feature=related (Gameplay begins at around 1:55) I wasn't a fan of Master of Darkness. If you're into Castlevania, then this might be a disappointment. It's not as exciting, original, chaotic, or fun. In fact, it's easy and boring, IMO. Graphically, it's superior to Castlevania, and it's obviously inspired by Castlevania, it's just not anywhere near as good. Here's a video:
Austin #3 Posted October 17, 2009 (edited) I personally enjoyed Vampire: Master of Darkness. It's a nice diversion from actual Castlevania games (considering I have the tendency to get bored halfway through them these days, having been playing them since their inception). I enjoyed the themes and some of the music. The game itself is easier, but the stages are much longer and it's not very forgiving if you have to continue. If I still had a SMS, I would have it in my collection. Check it out on an emulator if you're not sure about picking it up. Legend #4 Posted November 30, 2009 Golden Axe Warrior is similar to zelda, but not exactly a clone. There are some substantial differences and Golden Axe Warrior is a good bit harder too.
Austin #5 Posted December 1, 2009 Eh.. I wouldn't say it's as much of a rip as, say, Neutopia on the Turbo Grafx, but it's pretty damn close..

I have not played Master of Darkness, but I did a ways into Golden Axe Warrior and it's great. Definitely "inspired" by Zelads - similar gameplay - but it has a more traditional fantasy RPG setting. You've got the same overworld/dungeon layout, sword-swinging gameplay, and set of items that lead you to each new area. Fun game, but unfortunately I got stuck on the 6th or 7th boss and haven't played in ages. Edited December 4, 2009 by BydoEmpire
