Over the ages, there have been lots of great party games that have been the light of birthdays, sleepovers, dorm room, and house parties.

My most memorable would have to be Mario Kart 64. There were many weekends me and a couple friends would get together for drink, play cards, and of course, do some drunk driving. And when racing got worn, there was battle mode, which brought hours of entertainment.

What are some of the best party games you have ever played or remember?

In college, my friends and I would get together for drinking and sports games. Things like Madden, baseball, golf, racing....fun stuff. I miss those days. :)

So many great games for party games. Halo definitely tops the list for modern games. So many hours waisted each week on just that one game. But that's with the younger crowd. For me and my friends, it would actually have to be Decathalon. Yeah, 2600, but it was such a great game. I mean the hours we'd spend playing it, especially when we got 4 people together, it was just great. And your parentscertainly didn't complain about how "laxy" kids were cause all they did was play games if you could succer them into playing with you :P So many worn out sticks, so many holes worn into palms, and at the height, we'd even have a board with however many people playing it tournament style, and keeping score to find out who's the best at what.

Many games tried to replace decathalon, but none ever did, yeah, I'd have to say, while it may not be pretty, or the most complex, it was our first, and most fun. We still play it from time to time....and now that many of my friends have kids, who knows? Maybe there will be a new generation that will play decathalon right along side the likes of Halo?

A Party-Game poll on AtariAge without a mention of Warlords or Medieval Mayhem??? Blasphemy!!!! :)

So I guess I'm going to go with Gauntlet.

Um, Warlords is one of the choices. :ponder:

I think Party Mix on VCS should be included as well. Great fun party-type games.

Death Tank Zwei (found in the Sega Saturn version of Duke Nukem 3D) was a BLAST to play with a bunch of friends. It never got old.

A lot of Goldeneye got played in my shop when the USS Kitty Hawk was deployed in 1996. Star Fox 64 also got a lot of play time as well. Guys in the supply room played Command & Conquer.

Other:

Checkmate on the Bally Astrocade with four players is the absolute shit!

Also, Halo and Soul Calibur were pretty good too.

I think it's important to specify whether a given party involves the social consumption of miscellaneous alcomahols or not. I imagine that weights heavily on what games are best suited for any given party.

Hehe, good replies! Thanks :)

Mario Kart 64 for me as well; also Super Mario Kart a close 2nd, and GoldenEye 3rd.

Good choices, had definitely spent a lot of time on those at house parties, even today when theres enough people over and the 64 is mentioned, "Hey, you got Goldeneye?"

Worms everytime for me with Gauntlet 2 on the ST and Bomberman right up there

I love old school Gauntlet, it can be frustrating, but very fun.

Man, I forgot about Command & Conquer. Not so much a party game, but was one of my favorites back in the day.. actually, if I remember correctly.. start right down left left down right right down left X up X

Hehe, if there is alcomohals as you put it, there is going to be some M Kart 64 :D

How about Twisted Metal 2, or Vigilante 8? Good times good times.
