Weird Mario Bros. Cart

Recommended Posts

Went to a Video Game shop on Saturday, and found a stack of carts. However, once i got them home I realised that my red label Mario Brothers was a lot different to normal atari carts.

For starters, it doesnt have the normal Atari cart shape. In fact, it has the exact same shell as the Skate Boardin' and Pete Rose carts i got.

Secondly, the label says 'Made in Australia'. All my other Red Labels are either 'Made in China' or 'Printed in Hong Kong'

The Cart seems to have been put together pretty shoddily, as the top of the cart isnt even at the join, and is breaking at one side.

Lastly, and I might sound a little uneducated on this one, but more of the 'insides' are showing than all of the other carts that dont have 'dust doors'. There are the metal bits at the top of the Rom showing, and before this, ive had to break open a cart to be able to see this.

Has any one else seen a cart like this, or own one, and be able to shed some light on the topic?

Thanks

Yeah, it's just another PAL release, I've seen one like that before. I want to say HES released that version, but I'm not 100% certain.

definately a late PAL release, Im not sure about the year but i have alot of late releases like kung fu master that are just like this. Something tells me they are cheap mass production carts, However they all work fine.

Thanks for the info.

I was thinking more cheapo manufacturing before anything.

I didnt think Atari games were made by HES at all, but due to the casing, could I be wrong?

HES released games from different companies in the late-80's, I've seen a lot of their Activision stuff. I'm pretty sure that's an HES though, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

If this was made by HES, its the only Atari brand game by HES I know of. HES games and compilations were always third party, usually Activision.

Im still puzzled as to why atari would use a cart shape the same though....
