Cebus Capucinis #1 Posted October 30, 2009 Okay, so I'm on the fence about this. I'm interested in the Colecovision. I should stop collecting video game systems, but this one intrigues me. Anyone want to convince me to pick up this system?
Zwackery #2 Posted October 30, 2009 The definitive 3 systems from my youth are the 2600, the Colecovision, and the Vectrex. I was extremely loyal to the 2600 until the CV came along. Get yourself a CV, it has some mighty fine games to play.
VectorGamer #3 Posted October 30, 2009 W/O having this thread locked??? : ] Shouldn't be much convincing - it's the best console of the era... I have one available that I could sell you - and because you are an AA member I'll reduce the price to $3500 and I'll even throw in a free Donkey Kong cart! But, wait - that's not all... If you PM me within the next 15 minutes I'll give you FREE SHIPPING! So don't delay - order today!
+thegoldenband #4 Posted October 30, 2009 FWIW, I've been on the fence too. I'm excited about some of the games coming out from homebrewers, and there are some very good classic-era games too, but the console is notorious for reliability problems and I really don't want to deal with flaky hardware. I think if I saw one at a yard sale, though, I'd jump on it. (Is Opcode still considering a standalone module?)
accousticguitar #5 Posted October 30, 2009 It's hard to say if you would like it or not. I had one for a while and I couldn't relate to it. The games were unfamiliar and just different.
Cebus Capucinis #6 Posted October 30, 2009 Well, there just aren't any in my area, and I don't really want to fork over $250 or whatnot on eBay for one if I'm not quite sure.
VectorGamer #7 Posted October 30, 2009 The flakiness is the video input and power-related just to be brief - you can search on the details instead of me recounting them... Regarding the comment from Acousticguitar - I don't understand not being able to relate to it as I thought you were a classic gamer - could be wrong I guess. The ColecoVision is arguably the best console of the classic era and at the time offered the truest arcade graphics. Re cost - $250 is way too much to be spending on the console. I spent $40 for the console w/ a Mouse Trap cart. You can build your collection from people like me on Atari Age selling dupes. Also, if you're not a "CIB kinda guy" and it has to have perfect labels, I get a bunch of CV carts from Atari2600.com that are the Nekkid Ladies/Wounded Warriors variety. CV is my favorite console. accousticguitar #8 Posted October 30, 2009 Atari went with high profile arcade game ports while Coleco went with low profile arcade ports, the ones that didn't make it to Idaho.
