JohnBuell #1 Posted November 5, 2009 I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm at the point in my collection where I'm finally warming up to (read: finally saving enough money to) get some of the recent homebrew Lynx games. So my question is, how much "punishment" can these little boards take, in comparison to the original cartridges? I have both a Lynx I and Lynx II, and at least one cartridge in all three of the original shapes. Is it easier to use homebrew carts on just the Lynx II because of the lack of a door? Will they fit in a Lynx I? Any tips/suggestions welcome.
EricDeLee #2 Posted November 5, 2009 Because of the chips used for the homebrews, generally speaking, using them in a Lynx II is better. You can generally use them all in a Lynx 1, but you may need to remove the hinged door. For the most part, getting the game into the Lynx I is not a problem. Taking it out is a fiaso that can lead to damaging the pcb, chip, game and possibly the Lynx itself. The PCBs I've all ran across for the Lynx are all very durable. The only ones I would question are the bootleg ones that sell on ebay (out of Poland). Other than those, I think all of them are durable. If you have an EPROM window that is open, I assume you'd want to cover that sucker to avoid too much sunlight. Other than that, you should be able to chew on the suckers without too much worry. LOL Some of the Homebrew PCBs are extra thick (Video 61 PCBs stick out in my mind for being pretty thick). Those are a bit harder to get in and out of the systems as well.
Atari Smeghead #3 Posted November 6, 2009 The Lynx II can handle any homebrew cart with ease. I have a lot of homebrews, including from the Polish guy, and I haven't had problems with any of them. When removing a hombrew with the big chip from your Lynx, it is advised not to put too push pressure on the chip itself, but I find that difficult. But as I said, so far, no problems. I don't have a Lynx I, so I can't directly comment on that. Cheers, Smeg
