jaybird3rd #2 Posted November 12, 2009 (edited) It all makes makes me wonder what the writers must have been thinking. My favorite: "I like girls, but now ... it's about JUSTICE!" These all seem to be newer games, probably because there wasn't much "voice acting" in classic games. Still, I wish they had included Bosconian, which has the most awful barking voiceover I've ever heard: "Lock AWL! Aloiyt! Aloiyt!" godslabrat #4 Posted November 12, 2009 Not even honorable mention for "It's a-me, Mario!"?
Jess Ragan #5 Posted November 12, 2009 Most of those were good choices... Grandia's voice acting was pretty woeful in the US Playstation remake, and Last Alert should be on EVERY worst acting list. However, I could have used a little more Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, or Battle Arena Toshinden Remix for the Saturn. And where the heck is "Careful, Colonel! People will HATE you if you're too... stingie!" When other companies were hiring cue card readers for their voice over artists, NEC and Hudson were hiring illiterate cue card readers! It blows my mind just HOW bad the acting is in some of those clips. There were a few instances when the acting was delivered with no emotion whatsoever, like the guy in that Valis clip. Not the greatest way to showcase your new, state-of-the-art CD-ROM technology.
S1500 #6 Posted November 12, 2009 SOCOM had some uninspiring voice bits when you tossed a grenade. A lackluster "outgoing!".
StoneAgeGamer #7 Posted November 12, 2009 There was a game called Michigan? lol...
the.golden.ax #8 Posted November 12, 2009 There was a game called Michigan? lol... I didn't know that either... Michigan is apparently hell. AX
Seob #9 Posted November 12, 2009 I make my ears bleed. Funny that there's only 1 cd-i game in it. They mostly top the list.
Emehr #10 Posted November 12, 2009 I always thought the voice acting in the PS1 version of Castlevania - Symphony of the Night was horrific. Especially that "Die monster! You do not belong in this world!/What is a man?" intro. I get a good laugh every time I hear it.
MagitekAngel #11 Posted November 12, 2009 I agree SOTN's voice acting is pretty horrific, but I think the guy who played Dracula did pretty well. Alucard was... tolerable but flat. And Richter, well... yeah he was the worst. Easily. I was pleased to see Mega Man 8 near the top, but where are the Sonic Adventure games? They're terrible. "It is written, only Link can defeat Ganon" "Great! I'll get my stuff!" "DINNER"
Vic George 2K3 #12 Posted November 13, 2009 Those were pretty good examples of bad voice acting. I couldn't stop laughing.
rpgfaker #13 Posted November 13, 2009 Don't get me wrong, but how the voice actor who plays Col. Cambell from MGS ended up in this list is a bit far fetched. Some of these have worse dialogue than voice acting and for a top 50 # 1 was no worse than any of the rest.
aftermac #14 Posted November 13, 2009 Wrestling games have always annoyed me... "That was a great, THE PEDIGREE!" --Good ol' JR
Vic George 2K3 #15 Posted November 14, 2009 My comments on the outstanding worsts in that list: #48 -- Is that person dying or taking a real strenous...uh, bathroom break? #41 -- Oh no! Here it comes...oops, false alarm! #29 -- Good...can you also tap-dance? #28 -- This isn't a Care Bears videogame! #24 -- Interesting interchange...but what's it doing in this game? #23 -- See #28 #18 -- Someone writes something in his blood and all he can say is, "Way to go, kid!" #14 -- For a lady wrestler game, it sounds like somebody who's out to pick some flowers in the meadow rather than rip some female opponent's head off. #12 -- Gee, Infogrames, and you weren't creating a Smurf Fighter videogame during this? #9 -- If only Xena: Warrior Princess was on the air when this game was released! #3 -- From the Elmer Fudd School of Acting... Gabriel #16 Posted November 15, 2009 A whole top 50 could have been done with just Chaos Wars and Castle Shikigami 2. But that's part of both games' charm. I'm surprised to not see any Final Fantasy X on the list. Tidus's voice actor was horrible, and just about every line in that game made me wince. Rev. Rob #17 Posted November 15, 2009 IMO, Shenmue and House of the Dead 2 were waaaay under represented.
Jess Ragan #18 Posted November 16, 2009 Dr. Light sounds like a cross between Elmer Fudd and that guy who reviews movies... Gene Shalit, I believe. I actually beat that game back in the day but didn't recognize the Shalit connection until I watched that video.
BassGuitari #19 Posted November 17, 2009 Only one mention for Resident Evil, and it came in dead last? C'mon. The 50 worst moments of voice acting in videogames can all be found in Resident Evil alone! I was surprised to see Tenchu make that list. I never thought the voice acting was that bad in that game...aside from Ayame's arrows/fear/NOT thing. Some of it's actually pretty good.
Herbarius #20 Posted November 20, 2009 (edited) Who else thinks the voice "actor" of Dr. Light in the Megaman 8 sample sounds very drunk? Overall, I got some good laughs from that, indeed. Edited November 20, 2009 by Herbarius
Lord Thag #21 Posted November 20, 2009 Nice. Quite funny. I'm surprised that Two Worlds didn't make the cut. That game sounded like they just grabbed random people from the cafeteria, handed them some lines and said 'hey, read this with a really bad British accent.' Vic George 2K3 #22 Posted November 30, 2009 More comments: #50 The "Master Of Unlocking"? What is she, a sorceress with magical abilities to unlock anything? #45 I bet she was a Royal Shakespearean Theater reject. #43 Paul Winchell as Gargamel could have delivered this line better! #30 Keye Luke was much more commanding than this attempt of an Oriental voice actor. #8 "It's astounding...time is fleeting...madness takes its toll..." Eltigro #23 Posted December 10, 2009 Yeah, I see bad voice acting and I immediately think of Resident Evil and SOTN. (But enough talk, have at you!) I wish it would have been a little more mixed up... how many times did Grandia show up? Also, what about that terrible and uncomfortable laughing scene in Final Fantasy X? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU8-e-C4Uy0
