Recently modded (coloured) console pics

Recommended Posts

Before and after pics of a Sony Playstation and a purple megadrive/genesis - both were working but in very poor exterior condition - they have been completely stripped , cleaned and the empty shells sprayed in an automotive spraybooth with a bonding agent and the finish is supberb - but most importantly has bonded well with the surface and is scratch resistant. I also have done two Lynxes one white , one green which can be viewed over at the Lynx section of the forum - enjoy!

How about a colored Super NES?

I would love to - but it probably wont happen for a while - Until playstation , Sega was King here in Oz so Megadrives are easy to come by - SNES's not so much and therefore command much higher prices. I am a bit of a purist and have only coloured consoles in which the original shell is too faded or damaged to restore. SNES's are just too valuable at moment to consider - although any console is in my sights!

Unfortunately the picture doesn't do the Sega justice - the colour appears gloss black until light strikes it- V nice!

I love those colors!!! My favs. icon_lust.gif

How much is shipping from there to the States? icon_ponder.gif

It's a service that I would be serious about offering except the postage aspect would simply make it too expensive for most. Each example costs around $50 US in man power and materials to produce - I can get that down to $40 each when doing in bulk but sending anything to and from the US on top of that cost (as well as the 240v PAL issue) sadly means it probably wont work.icon_sad.gif As I said I dont skimp on the finish quality and as most of you know cheaper work means flakey paint! Part of the cost is having to book "time" in the spraybooth.

I am toying with the idea of "rescuing" shells from unrepairable units and selling those coloured. Postage would be a lot cheaper and the buyer would simply swap out with their original shell. With postage though you are still looking at around $80 for an empty shell.

Anyone is free to PM me if interested - next on my list are 2 more playstations , a megadrive I , and an FZ-1 3DO - now that will be funky!

For any Aussies who want to see them first hand they can visit me at the Kryptonite Comics stand at the Morrisett Mega Markets most weekends!

I want that red N64... seriously. It's absolutely beautiful. What's your price?

I am giving serious consideration to doing a limited run of 50 including numbered certificate and a mario toy - the big issue for overseas buyers is the PAL/240 volt issue. I would be prepared to colour customer shells then send back for the customer to reassemble. This would cut down postage costs and get around the voltage/system issue.

I was looking at $250 for one complete boxed as new with certificate and toy or $150 loose.

If it was just a shell you are looking at $100 for the respray and postage return. Each one costs me $70 in materials and booth time alone - so not much profit.

I have already taken orders for two of the 64s and am doing a Saturn in Sonic blue/white for another customer - finished pics will go up when done.

I would love to do this but i personally think it kinda ruins their condition, I prefer things in their original state.

I agree - however all the consoles I do are complete basket cases when I start. If doing this means that a ratty old console rescued from a rubbish tip (the N64 started off this way) finds a respectful place in someone's home then I'm all for it. If a customer wants me to do it to something in A1 condition then I am not above doing that - but my personal coloured stuff were all damaged loose pieces.icon_smile.gif

After looking at it more, I think the 3DO would look amazing if it was all that glossy white. It would kinda look like a PSX (not a ps1, but the DVR Playstation). Btw, a "new boxed" N64 for $250 isn't really needed. If anything, I could just order a shell. However, I am curious if you could do a 3DO that's all glossy white and for how much.

Lastly, you said you used automotive paints. How durable are these (is it as durable as if it were on a car? Or at the very least, like a white PS3 or something?) Thanks.

I've had a an all white 3DO suggested to me and will be going ahead with one soon! I got a delivery of loose 3DO's out of Japan that had obviously spent their life with other stuff stacked on them as they all had scratched tops!

The paint is very durable - the process is identical to that used on plastic fenders. Bonding agents are used and a tough enamel shell formed. A delivered shell would cost approx $100. If you supplied the shell that would drop to $70 - 3DO's aren't that common here.

Crazy thing is that I have already sold two of the 64s at that price ...so there is definitely a market. I do clean and check all components and replace capacitors and resistors where necessary during reassembly.

There's a guy on youtube that paints consoles, also with auto paint. Very simmilar. Everyone in the states that wants to get around that nasty shipping should look that guy up. I haven't bought anything from him but you're not paying for shipping from around the world so I'm sure it's a little more cost effective.

Check out his custom carts too. Seriously when I saw the first pic I thought it was the same guy till I read the dude here's in Australia. If I had access to auto paint I'd be doing the same thing. I've done some ok paint jobs with plastic friendly spray paint...but you can't get that kind of glossy finish with spray paint.

Never seen him before - thanks for the link!

Yeah I wish I was based in the US - I would certainly be able to offer my services so much cheaper.icon_sad.gif

I refuse to do mine though with a hand held sprayer - mine are spraybooth and oven.

Some great ideas there - I'll have the next round of pics up soonishicon_shades.gif
