pinball22 #1 Posted November 17, 2009 Is the connector on the Famicom version of the Arkanoid controller the same as the NES connector? Here's an auction with one, and I was thinking about getting it (I have a Generation NEX, so I can play the games), but I wasn't sure about the connector. No. The Famicom had hard-wired controllers like the Intellivision. There were peripheral ports that had 15-pin connectors much like the Atari VCS/2600. Obviously, you know that the NES had 7-pin connectors that were shaped differently. So, the Famicom Arkanoid controller will not work on the NES, unless you make an adapter or rewire it to a standard NES connector end. Here is a link if you are interested in taking on that project: http://www.famicomworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=1559.
Shawn #3 Posted November 17, 2009 (edited) Send it to me and I'll make it standard NES comaptible for ya. Edited November 17, 2009 by Shawn Sr.
pinball22 #4 Posted November 17, 2009 Ok, that's what I figured, that it went to the 15-pin port, but I wanted to be sure. Shawn, thanks so much for the offer, but unfortunately I don't think there'll be time -- I wanted to give it to my husband for Christmas and I don't think it'll make the Japan->Tennessee->Canada->modding->Tennessee trip in time. tz101 #5 Posted November 18, 2009 Order one from Ebay and you'll have it by Christmas. I bought mine for $30 and it is worth every penny. Don't play Arkanoid with the regular Nintendo controller. Like you, I looked at Japanese Famicom version first. Being somewhat handy with electronics, I probably could have converted the connector, but opted to buy the NES controller instead.
