Does anyone know if the 2600 was test marketed before its official release?

I've always wondered if they had some on the market or to test somewhere (not on the market officially,), before the legal stuff happened and nolan sold out. (and of course, what they looked like if that did happen,) :-)

Promotional use only were for store displays and stuff. They didn't have anything to do with test marketing.
