flashjazzcat #26 Posted November 26, 2009 (edited) No offence but ebay are scum and take a sizeable chunk out of the winnings especially for low feedback score (not percentage...score!) sellers and most categories are enforced FREE postage and packaging so if he is going to discount it to 16 pounds AFTER it sold for 32 he might end up with maybe £12 in total...not worth the trip to stand in line with the losers at the post office to send your parcel. Give the guy a break jesus christ, why not moan about the scumbags running ebay screwing sellers into the ground with more and more unfair changes....you are lucky sellers still list this stuff on ebay. I have 4000 8bit games and about 50 computers and ebay can get stuffed with their latest changes! I will be making my own website...and pimping it to hell on single high profile item ebay auctions...ebay is just not worth it anymore. I could end up LOSING money on games let alone making my costs back at all. He bothered to email you and explain...what more do you want blood? 12 megapixel DSLR images? LOL behave! I am sure he is wanting to cancel the deal to get back his commission charges from ebay and paypal on refund simple as that. Just stop crying, cancel the deal and find another machine if they are so common and worthless....be a bit less of a child about the whole 'loss' of a 65XE and move on....nothing to see here. If anyone has tried to get bulky boxes down from a loft via a rickety ladder (which is 99% of how UK homes are) then clearly you would know this is very probable. It's not like he can hide re-listing it for more either The days of retro sellers on ebay are numbered, they are leaving in droves, just read the ebay forum posts from people with 20000 or 30000 feedbacks....these are major suppliers to us. The point is, as a frequent and experienced seller, he knew fine well that the 65XE might fetch a low price. He went in there with his eyes open, and when he didn't get the price he expected, he welched on the deal, simple as. No-one forced him to sell the item on ebay (he sells a lot, so presumably he's happy enough most of the time), and no-one twisted his arm to offer free postage. There are plenty of other Ataris with BIN prices in excess of £80 with £15 P&P charges on top. As for a photo: the guy was able to photograph the item for the auction, so if he was so out of pocket, why not take another quick snap and I might still have paid him £32? Because the thing never fell out of the loft, that's why. I'm not going to pursue the guy any further. I can't make him sell me the thing. What I'm talking about is courtesy and fair-dealing. No-one's crying about this: I just don't like being messed around, which I believe is what happened here. No-one forces anyone to use ebay. Internet based transactions like these are based on trust, and I believe this seller - in this case - was full of s**t. All sellers have to accept losses when auctions don't go as high as hoped. Real auctions can be the same. If you read back a few posts you'll see I already cancelled the transaction and remarked "Case Closed". I'd all but forgotten about it until you piped up with this hysterical rant. Cut down on the coffee, FFS. ...I suppose I'd better add a smiley for some irony... Flashjazzcat, i have 65 xe in good condition boxed ,untouched, no any upgrades inside (for now) , i think put it on ebay but if you looking for 65xe? I need little clean my storage, wardrobes and living room. A very kind offer. I'm not exactly in desperate need: I only tried to buy the ebay item because it seemed too good to miss. PM me with a suggested price: I can only say yes or no. Edited November 26, 2009 by flashjazzcat
+poobah #27 Posted November 27, 2009 As for a photo: the guy was able to photograph the item for the auction, so if he was so out of pocket, why not take another quick snap and I might still have paid him £32? Because the thing never fell out of the loft, that's why. So, wouldn't you have to take it out of the loft to take the auction pictures? And, why would you put it back in the loft when you know you have to ship it out in 7 days. The more I muse on this, the more I am convinced that the seller is full of it. mariusz #28 Posted November 27, 2009 On the occasion of this topic, let me present my current problem. This is my second problem with sellers from England. Listen to this: Here is still visible Ebay site with the auction where I bought electronic equipment. Roll it down to the section Questions and answers about this item You can see the potential client's query about a piece of equipment the player. Questions and answers about this item Q: Hi, is this unit with new Dynamik power supplay or not ? Regards Miro. A: It DOES have the new Dynamik power supply with a receipt to verify -This new Dynamik power supply cost about 450GBP (vastly improves the sound of player)- Whereas the seller's response, I sent him the following query: "Hallo mornington..crescent, Under condition, that Your Linn Majik DS Digital Stream Player - Black auction #180425624836I has new Dynamik power supply - I offer You 1450GBP for. If my proposal fits You, close the auction and I will PayPal You the money or remove the block for bidders outside the UK, so I can make my offer. You could send the item to my family in London or directly to the Poland (I cover shipping charges). I'm serious eBayer with 100% positive feedbacks. Let me know about your decision. Best regards" ....and things turned out like this: Hallo, I will alter the auction to accept Ł1450 on the basis that immediate payment is made to my paypal account on completion. These have been sent despite there being no duty to do so." My answer - Carefully read the questions and answers section on your listing. Let me quote once again, and last longer. Questions and answers about this item Q: Hi, is this unit with new Dynamik power supplay or not ? Regards Miro. A: It DOES have the new Dynamik power supply with a receipt to verify Man, You written in large letters that the player DOES have a new Dynamik power supply. Do not compromise yourself and do not call me blackmailer. You breach of my personal dignity, which is illegal. What's more, given your statement made in the section of questions and answers about the item, in my proposal for the purchase I EMPHASIZED that offer you £ 1450 under the condition that Your Linn Majik DS Digital Stream Player - Black auction #180425624836I has new Dynamik power supply. You never deny that is not so! (that the player has no new Dynamik power supply). Answer to yourself two questions: 1. Are the words "DOES have" in your dictionary mean "DOES have"? 2. If the client declares that will purchase, under condition that the player has the new Dynamik power supply, then prior to the transaction You should tell him that he does NOT have it. If you have answered "YES" - I expect an apology and the tracking number. If "NO" - think over Your behavior. From this day, the next 7 days I expect the missing items (according to YOUR statement:"I can send you this -box- and the Dynamik power supply seperately today should you wish"). If they do not receive, I will transform the dispute in the claim and shall forward all correspondence service PayPal and Ebay. Mariusz

flashjazzcat #38 Posted November 28, 2009 (edited) I think it becomes addicive after a while. I just bought a mint 800XL on ebay this afternoon (I could almost hear it falling from the loft hatch as I clicked the "Pay Now" button), and thereafter the 65XE zaxon offered me. I think I'll have to stop after that (two XLs and three XEs), but my self-justification for buying - as a collector - at the moment is the shape of the vintage computer market. You don't need to work on the Antiques Roadshow to see that now is a good time to buy: prices are low (a point which my previous eBay seller should have realized) and most people are anxious to turn goods into cash. Quite how I explain this to my wife, I don't yet know. She may not appreciate these shrewd investment decisions when two large boxes turn up at the door and we're dangerously close to dipping into the overdraft again... I'll just tell her what ThomSW said about English women and then leap enthusiastically to her defence. Funnily enough, she's part French anyway. Please get in touch asap so this matter can be resolved. Thanks, Paul! Call me an old cynic, but I'm wondering if he didn't get the price he'd expected and is intending to re-list. I replied (perhaps unexpectedly) by saying I'd be prepared to accept it for spares at a considerable discount depending on the extent of the damage. Surely if it really is damaged (and beyond his ken to fix), he'd be happy to accept a smaller price for it. If not, I'll be watching to see if it gets re-listed. Just take the refund and move along. There are plenty of 65xe models out there.
