Heaven/TQA #1 Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) aehm... I am running in an issue. I just walked in the basement of my fathers house (because he is moving...) and found my first computers... - 2x 800 xl - Amiga 2000 - Amiga 500+external cd-rom - VIC-ROMs - A8 games on disc and cassette - 1040 ste+ mono monitor+harddisc - jaguar games - tons of Amiga & Atari ST games - Books - print outs of conversations when first discussion of Numen (around 1997, should I scan them?) - print outs of conversations with Tamas Bene of HARD regarding HIP fx - PSX Games (Wipeout etc, for 109 DM ;=)) - SNES games Jesus... I really spent too much money on my "hobby". Now the question is...where to put that into my gaming room??? I already have there PSone, PS2, Xbox360, 130XE, iMac, Monitors, Xbox, TV, tons of games, VIC20, C64, 1541, 2600, 7800, Rock Band Drum-Set, 2x PES Instore-Presenters, DVD-Movies... Is there a practical solution to store them pretty nicely? Honestly... I don't want to hide all the stuff. It'd be much harder to have everything plugged in and ready-to-go, but you could probably custom-make some shelving, like a deep, open, bookcase to hold and display everything. Rybags #4 Posted November 25, 2009 You could send the STe and an 800XL my way - that'd alleviate your storage problems.
Heaven/TQA #5 Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) hey... it is an 4mb 1040ste... plus harddisc bug fixed plus 10mb or 20mb scsci harddisc... hahahaha... MB... but 800xl PAL should be not an issue... honestly... this his not fishing for a compliment but here are guys with a lot of systems, too and I would like to see what can be easily done to have most of the machines visible... not hiding them again 10 years... I don't want to hide all the stuff. One solution I have is to have them all controlled via a PC w/many parallel ports. So the keyboard, mice, floppy drives, etc. get switched from one central desktop PC (who said desktops weren't worth much). Sort of like a multiplatform KVM switch. That way you can stack them up and take up less desktop space. Lucky, you don't have a C64 as that won't fit into this picture.
UNIXcoffee928 #7 Posted November 25, 2009 The best thing to get are datacenter server-racks, sometimes you can luck out & find them cheap or free if you move them yourself. They solved my technoclutter problem, and look ultracool. Just get 19" shelving, and a lot of cagenuts & bolts, and you will not only have order, but a major decorating wow-factor. Personally I look to both NASA and the original Addams Family series for decorating tips, and have had splendid results. = )
+Stephen #8 Posted November 25, 2009 Wish I knew - unfortunately, all of my stuff save for the 130XE I use is in various plastic totes and in closets or in my basement. Stephen Anderson
Tezz #9 Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) Before I moved house I used to have all of my stuff setup in a much more restrictive space in one room so I had to carefully design some custom made units and shelving to try to make best use of the limited space. In the units I had some fixed shelves for some stuff and other shelves on runners so I could pull out the computer to work on. That way I managed to have my music studio equipment all in it's 19" racking along side it. Later on for the A1200 tower I built shelving in a tier system so it all could be stacked from the floor up in the remaining corner of the room with the printer above the monitor. I had an electrician friend install 24 double wall sockets around the room so that everything was sound and to avoid having loads of multiplug adaptors getting in the way. pepax #10 Posted November 25, 2009 Heaven, you're not the only one trying to solve this kind of puzzle. I've been thinking about organizing my collection for quite a long time now. It's also the reason why I like desktop 8-bits so much, I can make a nice pyramid out of the Philips NMS 8280, the C128D, the 1040STE (when it goes into that Lighthouse Desktop case, finally), the Amiga CDTV and the Sord M5 built in an Olivetti PC mini desktop case and even put a small CRT TV on the top. The problem is that these (and even more) computers need more than one monitor. For example I have an EGA CRT for the C128D and the Sharp MZ-821 and there's also the Commodore 1085S for the Amigas etc... I'm quite helpless now.... and the MSX2+ made by Panasonic, some Atari consoles, a few Universum Multi-Spiels, the Vectrex and whatnot are lying around creating a huge mess..... oh have I mentioned the Megadrive, SMS, CPC464, 6128, 464+, GX4000, Videopac+, ZX Spectrum, +3, C64s, Plus/4, C16, PMD 85-2, Consul 2717 (what the hell are these you may ask ), BTW the Consul is built in a monitor, and I see I also forgot about the Enterprise 128, all the 8-bit Ataris and their peripherals, the NESes and Famicoms including the Family Basic keyboard, the Universum Compumate, a MIDI master keyboard, a zillion joysticks, the green Amstrad monitor, a bunch of plotters, an A3 tractor printer heavy as hell and a few regular and historical PCs. Even if my colleague the network administrator gave me all his spare racks they wouldn't accomodate this junkyard! Well maybe I could just stuff the stuff in and let the Quickshot Robotarm pull them out on demand, only if it was bigger and stronger....
